Graphics, Gameplay, Bugs/Glitches or Brand Loyalty?

JoeDellis said it's ASB's graphics over MVP's that has him won over. Some folks here on OS will tell you without a doubt, that High Heat 2004 had the best gameplay/engine...but personally, I myself, could NOT get past players who literally looked like test crash dummies.

There are some here on OS that will swear to you that despite the ton of flaws common and widely noted in MLB 2006, that game has the most realism. And then there are some who will tell you that 2K has the best combination of all of them...Hmmmm.lol

My questions: What is the strong point for you with the different baseball sim games? Which of the following categories can you MOST look past when making your choice? Is it:

1- gameplay...let's go with a decent amount of realism and true-to-life happenings and gameplay executions in the game

2- graphics...let's say that they're decent/pretty good, but not outstanding

    3-excessive bugs/glitches (speaks for itself)

4-I'm just loyal...no matter what, I'll stick with a particular game brand

    Holla!

Re: Graphics, Gameplay, Bugs/Glitches or Brand Loyalty?

for me, i can live with "simple graphics", as long as the game plays as close to the real thing.. for instance, Operation Flashpoint - great game, especially online, but the graphics look like they were a decade ago.. i cant say that ASB or MVP is better because they both bring something different to the table.. ASB may have its issues, but it was the first to do ST games (even split squad games), & had a GM/Front office "mode" that made it great - 40 man rosters, rule 5 drafts, expansion modes, etc... MVP i love for the fact that while the graphics dont really "stand out", it plays a great game of ball -& especially now thanks to your slider work Rod, the games play more true-to-life... ps - i also loved MLB 06 as well, but i just couldnt take the freezing issue any more...

now for a game that i cant get into is take two's game (actually just got rid of WSE).. not only graphically does it look "odd" to say the least, it just didnt play a real game for me.. the fielding plays, vaccum suction of balls, etc.. was just too much.. just my two cents..

For me it has to be a good combination of graphcis, gameplay and a deep franchise. As much as HH was known as the most realistic sim, like hulkster, I could'nt get pass the greusome player models, faces, repetitive animations, bland stadiums and dead crowd. As well as the fact the franchise mode was hardly anything.

I prefered ASB myself until it dropped out of exsistence. It had the great combination of great graphics(some of the best coloring and authentic look), best stadiums(collision detection and scoreboards was key), realistic gameplay(besides the constant popups and linedrives to the same locations) and the deepest dynasty mode of many sports games. And the best of all, it had tons of little details that many baseball games neglect.

As for MVP, it was my choice last year and the graphics were good but not great. The gameplay trumped everything else and the hitting, throwing and pitching mechanics made for a more immersive game. It also helped that the franchise was decent. To bad its not around anymore. I would of loved to see how it would be on the next gen consoles.

As for WSB, I never got around to playing last years version. I heard way to many bad things about and still here many bad things about it. For my games, I need a nice combination of things. Even FPS Baseball Pro held a place in my heart because the gameplay was realistic, the franchise was deep and the graphics and animations were great for its time. Give me the above three and I'm there.

Uh....actually MLB 06' Graphics/Gameplay/Authencity won me over MVP, i just got my first ASB game ever yesterday( ASB 05 ) and to tell you the truth even that game looks better then the last MVP(05) i had for my PS2. The animations are soo much better, 2-2 count and going for the strike(and getting it) on ASB 05 looks AMAZING.

So is the authencity of the whole game, it just feels MLB, when i had MVP i never felt that way, to me it felt just like EA's brand baseball, while fun i got tired of it and opened my eyes to MLB 06 and never looked back, i want SIM slow/realistic gameplay, clearly EA doesnt give you that in their games.

Re: Graphics, Gameplay, Bugs/Glitches or Brand Loyalty?

I mostly look for animation and gameplay. I could care less about graphics. Animation is VERY essential to a baseball game because there are tons of movement in the game. Also, I want a deep franchise mode where trades REALLY matters and scouting a player actually helps you in the long run (Not 150 years of franchise that MVP 2004 had nor Owner mode that MVP 2005 had). I was probably the only one that hated the owners mode in MVP 2005 because you cared more about buying 20,000 more seats than actually enjoying the whole 162 games of ups and downs.

I absolutely can't stand glitches and bugs in a baseball game. I had ASB 05 and it had everything you wanted in a game except you couldn't see the ball half the time or the ball would suck itself to your glove while the player is 20 feet away from the ball. Things like that will make me bring the game back to the store.

I'll take gameplay over graphics any day of the week.

That's why I enjoyed HH 04 the best on PC where you could mod the staduims, unis, etc..... and play as realistic baseball as you wanted.

I am guessing you got confused thinking SIM GAMEPLAY & Sim(ing) games are the samething. Sorry its not the same, let somebody else tell you why because i dont want to make you look dumb.

Re: Graphics, Gameplay, Bugs/Glitches or Brand Loyalty?

For me, there needs to be a mix of atmosphere, game play and game pace. For atmosphere, I really want that baseball feel. Mlb by Sony does this hands down. It really pulls you into the baseball experience. Game play is huge, usually the game that mimics real baseball tends to get most of my attention. If I could combine Mlb and Mvp together, I would be very satisfied.

Game pace is something that is very important to me. You want to have a very realistic and fulfilling experience but not have it take 2 hours to do it. I think Asb had the worst game pace of any baseball game I ever played. By the seventh inning I was done, I could not take it anymore. High heat was probably the best, you could finish a game in 30 minutes and never feel cheated.

Don't ask me to put them in any order of importance because to me they all need to be there equally.

I hope you meant ASB 04, i heard that one made alot o people cry and whine because they couldnt get contact with the ball.

ASB 05 doesn't have this issue.

you know, ASB 05 has a FAST gameplay feature and custom pitch count feature, for the impatient folks. game pace whining about that game its pointless.
