Question about college baseball

A friend was telling me that apparently the NCAA is going to start new rules that essentially won't allow Southern and Western teams to start their seasons earlier than the northern teams. This has obviously been a huge advantage, as the CWS has been dominated (in terms of # of teams and success) by warm climate regions.

Has anyone else heard this or knows more details about it? If so, i think it is great for the northern teams!!

Auburn started their practices on January 13th.

What all does that article say? I didn't feel like registering to read it.

yeah Bama started this month too. As did the rest of the SEC.

This rule change goes into effect for the 2008 season. This will definately help northern teams be able to compete. However Feb 1 for a first practice date is too late. It should be a week if not two earlier. I am afraid that it could lead to more arm injuries because they are not game ready and coaches may leave a guy out there longer then they are ready for. The biggest problem before was the ability of southern teams to spread out their games much more then the northern teams so their top starters and relievers threw more innings.

So what are the schools going to do because of this, start the season later? Auburn's first game every year is pretty much the first weekend of February. I guess when this ruling goes into effect, the schedules will slip back some?
