I had ASB 05 for about a week, my impressions soo far.

First let me say what i dont like, get that out the way and maybe i can get some help from you guys who had it.

    1. The hitting is too easy, getting contact with the ball is too easy. It doesn't mean it is going to be a HIT or HR when i hit it, but it is rather odd that i am playing on LEGEND and using the pitch type SIM(Fastest), hardly get struck out by the AI.

I play with ALL hitting aids off(strike zone off) with ZONE hitting and i get struck out hardly, most of the outs are pop ups or rollers. I did try the 2d and 3d cursor and that thing seems too arcadish for me to mess with and yes it is easy to hit on that to.

I am guessing the problem i am seeing is that the AI pitchers really dont act like they want to strike me out, no strategy at all and throw strikes 99.9% of the time. That is something i wish could be tweaked or changed, so i atleast can get challenged on the mound.

    2. Homeruns, why did they make it soo dull?. I done a few and i was like "uh ok thats it?" LOL seeing them just walk down like going down the yellow brick road its just lame. I did find out that on spanish commenting the guy sounds 10 times more excited about the HR do, so that helped a little.

    3. SOUND(specially the crowd), wow was the deal it all sounds soo low end, i got sound setup and i expected to heard better but it is not that great, oh and the soundtrack sheesh i had to turn it off after 2 daus of hearing the six flag song soo much.

    What I do LIKE

    1. The gameplay, man this is what i was expecting, SIM style baseball feel WITH AMAZING FLUID ANIMATIONS at the plate. When i first struck out a batter with 2 outs already and seeing that whole sequence go down soo fluid i was amazed, by far the best animation i seen in any game in that type of scenerio.

    2. FRANCHISE MODE, wow this is awesome soo many options and ways to keep your rosters updated, i took a weekend and updated (the updated rosters i got) to reflect 2006 rosters team by team as of today (did the Benson trade already ). I thought it was going to be hard but i was shocked at how easy it was to do this.

I like the feature in franchise that lets me create players i couldnt find in the game and the fact IT SAID THEIR NAMES! after i created them. I made David Wright for the METS and Victor Diaz and it actually says their names, that is awesome!, i wish it said Robison Cano's name do but oh well?.

Another cool part is the EDITING, wow this is awesome in the game some players look slimmer and some too fat, i like the way you can change that and make them look close to what they do no.

Example, BIG PAPI looked a bit too slim so i went ahead and made him look the way he does now. I edited quite a few players to look like they did last year in terms of the gear they wear and stuff, pretty cool feature right there. Also edited them in personally as players with some tips i got from Jim & Knight(thanks again guys. Anyways clearly one of the best franchise modes i ever seen( it is probably the best ever made?..) soo many features and stuff, i probably haven't seen it all LOL.

    3. The suprisingly(for a 2004 game) good graphics, many gameplay modes, extras, Overall the best stadiums i seen in any baseball game, cards, videos, mascots all that stuff is just icing on the cake.

    Overall great game 9.0

Zone hitting in ASB 05 is very easy to make contact, Use the cursor.

I been told this but like i been saying, batting options its not really the problem here. I just think the AI pitching was not done right in this game, they throw too much strikes and pitch with no strategy.

Trust me i have struck out on Zone but still not enough for me to worry, i can easily get contact with many of the pitches but like i told you it is not always a hit or HR, Which it is a good thing if you think about it. I am basically just pointing out the AI pitching= not that good, i wish that game had slider it could had easily fix this issue.

Joe, you need to use the 2D cursor on classic pitch speed.

Trust me, after 150+ games it is the way to go after I exhausted all options.

Put Home Run Cam on .....it is awesome watching them carem off everything.

I hope you are using fielder view....it is the best baseball fielding camera ever by a long shot.

Have fun! It is a great game

Without a doubt. I never used cursor batting until I played this game and it's the most realistic.

nah man like i told you i tried them all and i still can get contact easy, it just seems that the AI doesn't pitch with a Strategy to strike me out. Also Cursor batting just seems too arcadish TO ME, having to move a cursor just to hit the ball, i aint feeling that.

But ya i agree great game, i just wish the AI was more agreessive when pitching againts me.

Homer CAM?, i just see RANDOM & CUTSCENES, which one of those is cooler?(i think i have it on default, whatever it is).

I tried Fielder for a few games( and scenerio mode), for some reason i like 2004 cam, it looks very broadcast style and thats why i like it.

I'm tellin ya, only way to play 2D cursor (I think set on small), fastest pitch speed, all pitch aides off. If you are still hitting too easy then you're one of those people who can master any game.

One thing that I hated about the All Star Baseball series after 2002 was that after you begin your swing, your cursor would freeze in place. You still couldn't free-roam to the ball. Did they keep it like that for 2005? I know it was like that for 2003 and 2004.

Ya i dont think with me changing batting option works. I think i mastered the timing, first thing i did with the game was go to practice mode and try all batting options on (Sim)fastest pitch type all aides off. Same out come all pretty much let me get contact at a high rate.

                        JOE,

If you've mastered 2D cursor at the toughest level there isn't a game that you can't master then. This is a game where I drew a bunch of walks because the pitches weren't grooved. I'm surprised.

Dont forget i used to play HIGH HEAT more then anything and the fact i got the timing down good already, after just doing batting pratice for an entire weekend (while i was updating the rosters), so ya i say i master the timing(and where i expect the ball to come and which ones to swing at) the most.

The AI needs to just have some strategy and they can own me a bit, like i told i been struck out by the AI and i noticed when they throw me fast balls and then a quick chance up to own me, if that happened more i wouldnt be saying i mastered it.

Knight gave me some tips on how to tweak the AI into not throwing soo much strikes, i am currently doing those tweaks to the AI starting pitchers, i will tell you if it improves the way the AI pitches.

no you can't. Once you swing the bat the cursor is stuck. The game looks great, however I don't see how you are hitting so well with the cursor cause I could not hit fastballs in simulation pitching on legend at all. It is virtually impossible to hit a fastball on that level with a cursor. The pitch is too fast.

I like the game alot but the roster options are terrible, you can't release players, the interface is confusing and convoluted, the options and all the stuff you want to do is so hard to find due to the bad user interface. Well its just a very difficult game to manage that is for sure!
