Did grab ASB05 for real this time

After balking a couple of times at purchasing ASB lately, I did pick it up yesterday. Got the PS2 version though, as the Xbox one was like $15 vs $8. So Jim, if you could refresh me on those edits for the outfielders I believe you said, and I think another one or two. I don't want to put 20hrs of editing and roster stuff into it if I don't care for it but I wanna give it a fair chance and if it needs some outfielder speed edits to do so, I will.
Yesterday, while doing some errands, I decided I would take in alot of old crap games and PS1 controller I had into EB and at least get a few bucks credit. As it turned out I got about $13 which I was shocked. So I looked around as I knew I was either gonna get an old copy of ASB '05 or just put it all towards "The Show". So I ended up doing both. Also, gotta add that I passed on a p-o copy of NCAA MVP whcih would have been $10, but I'll stick that in another thread. I took up my ASB and put the remaining $5 on MLB.
Darn I wish the roster editing wasn't like it is, because if it really does play as good as it sounds, it could have been made timeless like NFL 2k5. Could you imagine an editor ala Finns for NFL2k5 but for ASB?! That would be great. But for now I have the PS2 version and no AR for that (have Xbox one) so it looks like some manual edits are a coming. Not looking forward to all of that.

    Okay....

For your team I would do the following upfront.

Reduce OF RANGE. Look at your outfielders and you will see far too many are rated way high. Geez, Brian Buchanan was rated "A". That's why the OFs get too so many balls. Except for the best, I reduced most to a "C".

OF ARM STRENGHT. Same thing. Except for the Vlads, Guillens, etc. reduce these to "C". (This is one of the reason AI players don't tag up, coupled with the runners slow SPEED ratings)

Look at your runners speeds. Far too many have "D" ratings. I upped everyone to the "C+" or better.

DON'T LOOK AT ASSIGNED LETTERS AT ACTUAL ABILITY OF EACH PLAYER BECAUSE IF YOU THINK OF IT THE RATINGS RUN FROM A+,A, A-,B+,B,B-,C+,C,C-,D+,D,D-. IS THERE REALLY THAT FINE A LINE?

This should stop all those deep drives off the outfield walls from being singles for the AI and will also insure that the AI will tag up and advance to obvious tag up situations.

Now, each time you have a three game series, before you play, go to that teams roster editor and do the same.

This is a start. There are other things you can do like up the pitchers RANGE and ARM STRENGHT so that those dribbler back to the mound, which should be outs, aren't turned into infield hits, but this is something you can do later.

Knight can help a bunch with ideas too.

I was never a cursor hitter, but I enjoyed this one. All aids turned off, used generated pitch count.

Thanks for the start. Like I said I grabbed the PS2 version. Is the Xbox one that much better? Also saw a PS2 (USB) keyboard for $10 at Blockbuster, think it would be of great help with rosters or just pass?
Jim, is this game to you still the best console baseball. i have seen your praise of MVP '05 on the PC, and I agree with all of those mods like making stadiums have real signs and such, it would be cool. But I just don't care for the cartoony look of MVP. And especially those announcers.

DON'T KNOW, NEVER PLAYED THE PS2 VERSION.

"Also saw a PS2 (USB) keyboard for $10 at Blockbuster, think it would be of great help with rosters or just pass?"

        I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT'S ABOUT.

" Jim, is this game to you still the best console baseball."

HMMMMM? IT'S AWFULLY GOOD WITH THE ADJUSTMENTS. OUT OF THE BOX IT'S NOT AT ALL. IT PRETTY MUCH HAS IT ALL EXCEPT FOR THAT DUMB THING ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO ADJUST ROSTERS PRIOR TO A SEASON. A KILLER FOR ME.

"i have seen your praise of MVP '05 on the PC, and I agree with all of those mods like making stadiums have real signs and such, it would be cool. But I just don't care for the cartoony look of MVP. And especially those announcers"

I DON'T FIND THE MODDED MVP T CARTOONY AT ALL, MHO. I LOVE THE GAME AND ONLY STARTED PLAYING IT A FEW MONTHS AGO, THE ANNOUNCERS ARE THE WORST, "PARDNER" AND "BIG BOY", UGH. I PLAY WITH THEM OFF AND THE CROWD AMBIENCE IS PRETTY GOOD.

Let me get this right with the PS2 version. Is it correct that you can adjust rosters prior to season mode? You can't with the XBOX. Do you need to download something to get it to work, buy a special gizmo to get it to do that. I'd definitely be willing to pick up the PS2 version if I can adjust the rosters prior to season play.

Yes i did all my moves even before playing a game on SPRING TRAINING, i just used the free agent pool and did all the moves that way using a FAQ being used for people who want to update mvp 06, it was fast i thought it would take me a week but it took 2 days.

I love how ASB is smart enough to the lineups to a realistic manner, like let say you make the move that puts thome to the whitesox, if you go check the lineup afterwards you can see they put in 3rd spot or 4th spot, it doesn't just throw him to the bench or whatever, i liked that because i thought i need to do what i just explained.

oh btw jim, he was talking about PS2 MVP and trust me that game looks bad on PS2, ASB 05( its from 2004) looks better then mvp 05 in every way except from the faces but the animations are better in asb 05 and overall detail also. I am sure on a PC that can pump out more visual power then a ps2 mvp looks way better then mvp ps2.

Really? And you can pick anyteam for which to start a franchise with? Are you willing to share? This is amazing news if you really did. Were you only able to because you have a modded PS2 and ftp? That is quite a chore, and not free.
