Questions I'd like answered about Hight Heat 2004
I've played PC High Heat before, but never for a console. I bought an XBOX a few months ago and I've been having a blast playing NCAA 2003. Now, I'm ready to try out a baseball game. I've never really enjoyed playing console or PC baseball, as I've preferred to play true simulations such as Strat-O-Matic. It seems that games are getting closer and closter to becoming sims, especially High Heat 2004. I wonder, will there be a realistic number of pitches, walks, etc? That's been a real downfall in all other games. Fifty pitch complete games are far from realistic, as are 35 start seasons with only 10 walks. Will there be broken bats if the pitch saws you off? Will the steal game be realistic or much too easy or hard? How many players will be included (real MLB players not fictional minor leaguers)? These are all things I'd like to know.Tags: None -

Good points. Last year I thought the pitch count was pretty good. Typically I'd get throw 110-120 pitches with my above average starters (Kile and Morris), but would only get 80 or so pitches before my lesser starters began to really tire out.
One of my main concerns is are they going to fix the injury problem that HH had last year? A player would get injured, but there was no way to tell how long he'd be injured unless you simmed through a bunch of games to see when that player would come back. -

Joe, don't worry about the injury problem.
HH is implementing the feanchise mode that the PC has had for years, which means that there is a Disabled list that you can place players on that will tell you how many days they will be injured.
As for pitch counts, if you work counts, you get great totals. The problem is sometime that people won't play and will swing too soon, etc.
I live by a rule in HH where I always take the first strike, which means sometime the count is 1-1 or 2-1 before I even think about swinging. The computer is very good at throwing balls, if you give them the chance to.Comment

My question is how good is the CPU at TAKING strikes? With a lot of games, the CPU almost never takes pitches that are in the strike zone, which is a major reason for getting low pitch counts.
I guess I'm wondering about the CPU's batting "eye" in general as far as strikeouts/walks go.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. Well, supposedly there are gameplay sliders for nearly everything...including pitch counts and foul balls. I can't wait for this baby. The PC version does have a very good manage only mode too. Not sure if the console versions will have it though.Comment

I vaguely recall reading that there wasn't a manage-only mode. Dont' quote me on that though.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. Brendan - Thanks for the info! I'm glad to hear that.
Pitt - I thought the CPU's ball/strike recognition was pretty good last year. I had no problem setting up the CPU hitters on the higher levels. Granted the lower levels the CPU hitters almost never swung at anything out of the strike zone. Typically I'd K CPU hitters with curves in the dirt or fastballs up and in.Comment
