After quite a bit of playing ASB 04 and 05, I have decided to stick with 2005. I have been playing (manage mode) through my Atlanta Braves franchise and I am amazed at this game (I have Estrada on the trading block, and in my last game he came to bat and the announcers were talking about how his future with the team is in question, and the we were shopping him around. I was like...wow). Anyway, here is a question I have: Each pitcher's pitches are color coded when he is on the mound. I have noticed they go from green, to yellow, to red. At first I thought this had something to do with stamina, but then I noticed a pitcher actually can start a game with the pitch being red at full stamina. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Does it indicate confidence in the pitch? Do the pitch ratings change throughout the game? Thanks for any help. I am in the middle of June, just got above .500 and am 3 back from of the Mets.

Re: All Star Baseball 2005 Question
It has to do with effectiveness of each pitch.
If you edit a player(pitcher in this case) the effectiveness will almost certainly turn red or yellow. It's a bug...but I think it's one that actually works in the games favor! I find that some subpar pitchers are too effective so this actually causes less K's and more walks!
I still love ASB2005 and can't believe that this series is gone.

Re: All Star Baseball 2005 Question
Thanks Knight. I was guessing it was something like that. I am addicted to this game now. It is the only thing that has been in my XBox this week. I am a franchise guy, and up until now I have been unable to get into any baseball game because to me, the franchise was shallow. The fact that ASB has waivers, Rule 5, the draft in June, etc., is amazing. The stadiums are flat out beautiful. Another thing I love, is that while the ratings do mean something, players play above or below them. Giles isn't the highest rated player on my team, but he is far and away having the best year hitting almost .300, 13 HRs, 40 RBI's, and leading the AS voting for 2nd base. It would have been interesting to see what this series could have done. I was going to pick up a PS2 for MLB 06: The Show, but after getting addicted to this game I am going to hold off.Originally posted by Knight165It has to do with effectiveness of each pitch.

Re: All Star Baseball 2005 Question
I agree with you Jim. Though I didn't like the way the pitches looked or some of the animation. But the game play was tight and the staduim were amazing. So acturate and the scoreboard were in real time. It was a great game that no one gave a chance. Because of EA and others (cough). But this game was very fun to play.Originally posted by jim416I still love ASB2005 and can't believe that this series is gone.

On another note, I was wondering if you happen to know what smart count does? I had been playing with hitter's counts, but was seeing a tad too many walks. I switched to random counts and that has been working well. Smart counts seems to take into account the pitcher and hitter ratings as well as pitcher fatigue. It seems as if when the pitcher is tired, there are a lot of 3 ball counts, etc.Originally posted by Knight165It has to do with effectiveness of each pitch.

Re: All Star Baseball 2005 @ jim416
Jim...really? The last series I bought was ASB 2004. I was ticked off at the game with it's limited player movement and what I call a self imposed cap on your total number of player movements (I was trying to get all rosters accurate). I also felt that it was too damn impossible to get a heathly number of K's against the opposing team. No matter how you nibbled and tried to get batters to chase, they wouldn't strike out. That aside...the weather, explanation of the rules (including the Rule-5 stuff) and stadium detail was the best I'd seen in any game...

I played a full season and then put it away to play football. When I came back to it I found that pitching was kinda slow and boring. What speed are you playing on?Originally posted by jim416I still love ASB2005 and can't believe that this series is gone.

I don't recall the details of that game, but I did have it (heck, I've had them all). 2k5 did take some tweaking, but I was just thinking that if this game was still in development it could have been king. Just my opinion. It took EA awhile to get the solid gameplay that I thought they had and just wonder what this game could have turned into.
I tried to take some of the files out of the game to mod the game, update it, but after I got my XBOX torn apart I couldn't find them.

What is the chance of being able to edit the entire game? Can you edit all the players to bring them up to date?
Was this game better than MVP, MLB2K, and MLB series?Last edited by CaptainZombie; 02-26-2006, 02:48 PM.Comment

WELL, THAT'S SUBJECTIVE. I THOUGHT THIS YEARS MVP PLAYED A GREAT GAME OF BALL AND WAS FUN. MLB I DIDN'T PLAY, BUT I WOULD THINK OUT OF THE BOX THE SHOW IS GOING TO BE THE GAME TO BEAT THIS YEAR. JUST ABOUT ANYTHING BEAT MLB2K . (GOD I'M GONNA HEAR IT FOR THAT).Originally posted by candyman56What was so great about AllStar 2005, I never had the chance to play this?
WELL, OUT OF THE BOX IT WAS OKAY, BUT WITH PLAYER EDITING IT WAS REALLY GOOD, IMO.

YOU HAD A PLAYER EDITOR WHERE YOU COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING EXEPT THE POSITION AND BATS/THROWS. THIS INCLUDED FACES, BATTING STANCES, PITCHING DELIVERIES, JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING, AGE OF THE PLAYERS. BUT THERE WERE ENOUGH FAKE PLAYERS AND POSITIONS WHERE CREATING THE EXTRA GUYS WAS NOT A PROBLEM.
Was this game better than MVP, MLB2K, and MLB series?
THE DRAWBACK IS YOU COULD NOT ADJUST THE ROSTERS PRE-DYNASTY, UGH. YOU HAD TO GO TO DYNASTY MODE TO DO YOUR ROSTERS AS YOU COULDN'T MAKE THE TRADES TO DEFAULT AND THEN LOAD THEM TO A DYNASTY.
I'M CURRENTLY DOING AN EXPANSION ROSTER, THE WASHINGTON ADMIRALS, WHO WILL BE THE NATIONALS, CREATING NEW PLAYERS, THE RYAN HOWARDS, ETC.Comment

Thanks on all the info. I think that I'll continue to play MVP till 2K6 drops in a few months on the 360.
Praying that 2K6 is good or some type of improvement from last year.

Yeah, I think you're wise to stick with MVP, it's only a couple months away for the 2k 360 game. I'm really enjoying MVP PC right now myseld, but am really waiting for The Show this week.Comment

Re: All Star Baseball 2005 Question
The more I play this game this week, the more wowed I am. I have had this game since last summer, but I never got into it because I was messin' around with 2K5 and MVP last year. I am currently in mid July with my Braves Manage Mode only franchise and have finally caught the Mets for first place at 49-43. The details in this game though amaze me.Originally posted by candyman56What was so great about AllStar 2005, I never had the chance to play this?

First off, I had Furcal go down day to day with a sore back after sliding into a bag. Well, in an interleague game against the Orioles I noticed he was available to play that day so I put him in the lineup. In his first AB, the announcer is talking about how he was doubtful up until game time, but he decided to tough it through and play today.
Then a later series I was playing the Expos down in Puerto Rico. When the game started up, the announcing was in spanish! I went ahead and switched it back to english, but I thought it was a nice touch. In that same series Orlando Cabrera came to the plate and the announcer was talking about how he is in the last year of his contract and rumor has it that they aren't going to be able to resign him at the end of the year, so they are looking to trade hime before the deadline.
And finally, I just played the All Star festivities. In the All Star game, the AL crushed the NL 11-1 with A-Rod winning MVP honors. The cool thing is that the CPU managed the AL like it was a real All Star game. Each P threw 1 inning (Mussina threw 2), and each position player got into the game. The next night I played the futures game and the two young P's I had just drafted in June were dominant. The game, played in Houston, was cool because the park was decorated for the All Star game.
