Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...

Who is playing in a league this year? How do you think your team will do? Any new equipment? Or anything else?

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...

I am heading up my church team again this year. I changed the logo on the jerseys. (its now what is in my avatar...same colors too) I bought a DeMarini Razor (it was only $100 at Dicks Sporting Goods, and our Freak broke in BP a couple weeks ago) and just ordered some new balls (Evil Microcells) which according to the guys at www.swingmechanics.com are some of the best balls out. Might end up getting a DeMarini Ultimate Weapon (only $100 at the Sports Authority) too if I get a job.

We were looking like we would be pretty solid but our 2nd baseman moved, one of our 1st basemen might sit out this year, and our left fielder might sit out a while or may have to be moved to right field because he is having ankle problems. I just hope I can return to form quick, since I have had stitches in my shoulder for basically the past month I havent been able to hit or anything...but I get them out tomorrow and am hitting my workout tomorrow afternoon and going to keep that going every weekday (running every day and lifting at least every other day) I have already began eating healthy (for almost 2 months now) so I am hoping that will help shed the extra weight faster when I start working out.

I'm really looking forward to starting up the season and from what I can tell everyone else on the team is too.

i hope im playin this year. I've played the past 3 seasons between Chicago and Milwaukee. Chicago was a blast cuz we played right off the lake on the northside. Now that I'm in Madison and work doesn't sponsor a team i'm gonna have to put my name on a list and hope somoene gets back to me. Little do they know I can play a mean shortstop.

I scooped up a new bat over the winter on clearance for dirt cheap so I'm excited to try it out. Season starts May 10th so I have a little over a month to get back into decent shape.

Im playing. decided to put my own squad together this year in the Co-ed ranks. I never realized how hard it was to find women that wanted to play. But i have it pretty much done. we have a scrimmage game this sunday(if it doesnt rain) and the season starts the following sunday.

Well my order of Evil Microcells fell through because they ended up going out of stock, they must be some real nice balls because I can't find them anywhere and when I do they sell out too fast. So unless something happens where I can get ahold of some of those I'm gonna go buy a dozen of Sharks.

Oh well...I paid the fees yesterday and get to pick up the jerseys tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to that...I hope they turned out as nice as I imagined them.

We start games the week after easter and our first practice is this Sunday, hopefully we can get a lot of guys out there.

I am currently in the middle of 2 leagues. One is co-ed the other is a men's league. Both are not doing that great. One reason my mens is not doing good, is because we are struggling to get 10 guys out each week. As for co-ed it's because we are up in the big boy league this year. At best I don't think we are upper league material. I guess because we went 10-0 last season justifies us to move up. On Tuesday, I am going to help out another team by playing in a short double header league. Lot's of softball ahead.

BTW....I think you will like that Razyor bat. It's a good bang for the buck bat.

I hope so, once I finish typing this paper I'm working on I hope to get out an hit a little. I think its gonna take a little time to get back my swing because I havent hit in so long due to the weather and then my stitches...but I hope I'm wrong.

Edit: I jsut took a break from my paper and hit 7 balls off the tee in my backyard with the new bat....I love it. Just from the tee work alone I can tell that its a nice bat and that my swing is there...I can't wait to get some live pitches. 6 of the hits were nice shots that I was happy with, then I hit a shark for the 7th...it was an absolute bomb, I dont think i have ever hit that far off the tee before, hopefully I will be able to hit the field tomorrow or Monday and get some live pitches.

Well we had our first scrimmage game yesterday. We took the game 13-6. i gave up a few wind assisted runs late in the 5th inning. It was crazy windy out here yesterday. I have a new found respect for the pitchers. Good thing i have a good Defense behind me to clean up my messes.

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...

I have been hitting a lot these past few days, I am swinging stronger than ever and the Rayzer just adds to it, I started a routine where I do 3 sets of 5 balls...I start with a 28 oz Worth (I think Powercell) hit the best 5 balls in my bag, then move to a 26 oz Worth Supercell and hit 5 decent (condition wise) balls, then I move to the Rayzer and hit 5 old "mush" balls...I retrieve the balls after each set (5 balls), sprint to them and throw them home then sprint back then put them in the bag and move to the next set. I close out the session with 5 of my best balls on the Rayzer. I think this will be my strongest year yet (knock on wood) at the plate, fielding however...I really need to work on fielding ground balls, I can catch well but for whatever reason grounders beat me up all day...for some reason I am scared of the ball when it starts hopping my way, I can see it coming and say to myself that there is nothing to be scred of, then it still gets me....I can catch a rocket line shot at my head, but a damn grounder kills me...it sucks, I need to get one of my teammates to work with me for a solid hour just working on grounders or something...maybe i should try hypnosis and have them remove my fear of grounders...

any tips for fielding grounders? I am sure I have heard them all, but none have sunk in well enough i guess.

You just gotta keep taking grounders, eventually it'll s ink in that it wont hurt....for long.

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...

We had practice today, I was happy with it. The league double-booked the field so we ended up having a scrimmage with the other team. We had a few of our better players (including our pitcher) missing so some positions had to be filled with guys who arent used to the position...the guy we had play 2nd broke his finger on a nasty hop...its actually broken, dislocated, and damaged the ligament. Its all good though, I hate that he got hurt but (as insensitive as this may sound, it is not meant that way) it helps with my decisions of who plays where and stuff. He is a guy that really has no position that he excels at and we already have 2 catchers so putting him there was basically out of the question. I got to see one of our new guys play and am really excited about our infield this year. We lost our 2nd baseman from last year so we needed one and this kid is looking great, and I know he will fit in perfectly there and swings a nice stick too.

I was able to pretty much narrow our roster to 14-15 people that will show up regularly...really 13-14 since the guy broke his finger and has to have surgery on it, I am assuming he will miss the season. I set the general lineup then had some help from my friend (who is the reason for the dash in 13-14 because he still is undecided, but he is gonna help coach and my be the extra hitter) with the batting order...I think we are gonna be pretty solid this year. Its a lot easier to find a place for people to play when there are so few, last year we had so many people it was difficult and some people werent playing at all. We play 10 on the field and an extra hitter so thats 11 guys a night, we will only have about 2 subs each night. I did find out one of our best players from last year is playing with another team in our league which kinda makes me mad because he said he would play with us and never told anyone otherwise...and to top that it was his girlfriends decision for him not to play with us (because his ex goes to our church and her brother is on the team also, so she will probably be at the games)...but oh well, one less body to worry about playing all the time....and more time for me in the outfield

I hit well in the scrimmage but had a few grounders that I bobbled and didnt have anything come to me in the air.

Then after the scrimmage my team stayed and took some BP...I hit alright and fielded much better catching what came to me and at least stopping grounders most of the time able to field it cleanly...if I could have the hitting from the scrimmage and the fielding from BP and use that every game I would be so much happier.

I would play, but I'd have to get in shape... and... yeah no... Even if I did get in shape and went on the team, I'd probably not play much.

I'd be seen as the youngin with all the 30-year olds... that forced me to quit in the first place. I wasn't getting any playing time and then I kept getting out of shape.

our whole team is young for the most part...we have 10 guys of the 15 that I have on the roster who are 22 or younger...then our older guys are: 30, and 4 in the 40s
