Exactly... spanish play by play is one of the smallest improvements this year... great for people who speak spanish, for those curious to hear it, etc... but it shouldn't be a detractor from the rest of the ASB-goodness about to come our way. Did you see the new animations? The new classic players and stadiums? The new hitting icon? The new menu systems and overlays? This is just a guess, but I doubt they had the entire development team sitting at their desks with english-to-spanish dictionaries for the past year.

Oh, I hear ya', but we all know that come release time next year there will be problems, flaws, or glitches. Things like manual replays, multiple pitching and fielding views, and homerun views would be better improvements. If Acclaim is bringing that to the table then great, but if not, Spanish commentary is a waste of resources...Comment

Re: Wait A Minute...ASB 2004 Will Have Spanish Play By Play???
considering that about 97 percent of people that play baseball games speak english, it's a waste of time. there's no way the demographic supports this addition. it sounds like a frivolous addition that they wasted their time on, when they could have been working on AI, or animations, or testing.
i'm glad that there ARE people that are speak spanish and german and french that watch baseball, but there aren't many.
or are there?
i suppose if they had room on the DVD, why not put more crap on there? hmm....."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

I've heard a lot of your opinions, and I can understand where they come from. Most of you seem to think ok spanish by play by play, whatever, but where are the features this game REALLY needed to have. I understand those comments, as they make sense. This person who wrote the comment I quoted, is just ignorant. Why are you assuming that 97% of people that play baseball games speak english, when that # isn't even accurate for the % of players and coaches in the league that actually speak spanish. Listen man, if you don't like the spanish play by play, its fine, keep it on the english one, its not like the spanish is the only option, and please don't come here with idiotic percentages that you needed to make up just to suport your poor opinion that the demographic doesn't support this decision. What the hell do you know? Did you do a study?

Okay what exactly does the % of players and coaches have to do with the % of spanish speaking mexican americans who play baseball video games?
I am not saying 97% is legit but you are going off on even bigger tangents.

Re: Wait A Minute...ASB 2004 Will Have Spanish Play By Play???
I think the point is that since there are a lot of Spanish-speaking players in the league, there is also a fan base where they come from that follows their exploits. Those fans would probably appreciate a feature such as Spanish play-by-play if they were in the market for a baseball video game.
Not sure how big that market is, but I imagine Acclaim wouldn't have put it in without some research.Comment

First off, let me say FP, that was exactly my point.
Now, who's talking about spanish speaking mexican-americans? Are they the only ones that speak spanish and play video game baseball? I for one think this a great feature, and I'm a spanish speaking Dominican, you know, like Miguel Tejada, Sammy Sosa, Alfonso Soriano, Vladmir Guerrero, A Rod, basically a lot of the best players in the league. There are also spanish speaking Colombianos, Venezolanos, Nicaraguenses, Boricuas, Cubanos, etc. that do play video game baseball. I'm sure Acclaim got some kind of evidence that made them feel this would be a great feature to add to their game.
The only reason I "attacked" the person making up the 97% is that he just threw some % out there without any kind of proof, I don't care if the real number is say 90%, his number is just wrong and thrown out there without support.
BD, you said yourself you don't believe 97% is legit, well if it's not legit, its wrong, and thrown out there for the sake of putting some ridiculously high %.
Again let me say, if people don't think this is a cool idea, that is fine, nothing wrong with that, I respect your opinion. A lot of people say hey why do spanish play by play when they could be concentrating on something more important for the game, I definitely respect your opinions as well. However, when people say, why do it, only english speaking people play baseball video games, or 97% of the people that play the game are Americans, or any other comment to that effect I just see as a ignorant, irresponsible remark.Comment

Re: Wait A Minute...ASB 2004 Will Have Spanish Play By Play???
Why would anyone be UPSET that there's a spanish option? Seems very racist. I recall last year one of my friends was happy that High Heat did not have franchise mode. Yes people, it's true. Some just don't like to have options. I guess they can't figure out the menus to get into the game. I look forward to spanish play-by-play. If you are going to play a game 100 times, why not mix it up a little?Comment

Okay timeout... First post in and you are using the "R" word. Do me a favor and travel to Mexico, France or any other foreign country and see if they cater to English language. Call a Bank in Mexico and see if they give you.
Press 1 for Spanish Press 2 for English.
Speak English in France and you might as well paint a kick me sign your back.
English is our country's language whether you agree with that or not. I expect a person who plans on living here to learn it and use it. It's just like how most English speaking Canadians complain about how everything has to be written in English and French.
If they add Spanish play by play that is fine. Alot of games and software come with multi language versions (even this forum code).
But throwing around a term like "racist" on a discussion like this. Sorry but you crossed the line on post #1.Comment
