Re: Possible proof ASBB 2004 is download content only?

For Xbox owners, the game will be fully online for my purposes...I don't see what the big deal is about it being on Live or not. All you need to do is connect your PC and Xbox to the same network, install and run either xbconnect or Gamespy to find an opponent, and then go into the game menu and choose system link. You can go here for more details: http://www.xbconnect.com

I wish every game had system link....wonder if WSB will (it didn't last year). I doubt MVP will, EA has sought to ensure that Xbox owners will have no way of playing their games online.

Most of us know about gamespy method. This method does not even remotely compare to the quality of LIVE. So being on LIVE is very important.

Exactly, if it's not on LIve then I won't be getting it. I'll just have to wait out for Inside Pitch, and if that will not have online play either then it'll probably be WSB for me.

"Sigh, guess we only have one possibly online Baseball game this year, and that doesn't come out until May. "

in the MVP interview they said that online was still TBD...but i'm thinking if they haven't decided yet it ain't going to happen

What do you mean by quality? As long as you join games with relatively low pings (and gamespy and xbconnect actually show you ping numbers), lag is not an issue. If you mean convenience, not logging onto Xbox Live must take a total of 10 extra seconds. The latest version of xbconnect even has a quick matchup feature to find players in your area, and both gamespy and xbconnect support voice chat for games that have it. While Xbox Live might have a few advantages over xbconnect, the developers of xbconnect are adding more and more features that not only match Xbox Live's features, but in many cases eclipse them because it allows users to have more control over their multiplayer experience.

I'd rather it be Live-supported myself, but I use xbconnect and Gamespy just as much as I do Live and I don't understand your quality comment. The bottom line is that ASB for the Xbox is online-capable for those willing to spend a bit of extra effort, and this thread title should be changed.
