MVP 05 vs. MLB the Show

I would really like to hear from the big MVP fans, but any objective feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really thinking about not buying a new game this year... just staying with MVP.

The Show seems like a good purchase, but how does it stack up against MVP 05.

You shouldn't just stick w/ MVP 05 w/out at least trying other games.

Give the show a rent, you might like it.

Re: MVP 05 vs. MLB the Show

Franchise-wise and overall gameplay-wise, I still prefer MVP 05 to the other gamees. I haven't played this year's 2k7 because I don't have a 360 or PS3, but I played it last year as well as the past 3 years' MLB The Show (well, the version three years ago wasn't called The Show, but you know what I mean). This year's The Show has a pretty cool career mode that I am really digging, but I'm not doing a franchise on that game. I like the way MVP plays better, so if I'm going to a full franchise, I'm gonna want to do it with that. The Show's career mode is something that just it offers and it makes the game worth it to me. MVP still doesn't have anything on The Show's presentation and overall feel of baseball though, MVP just has the gameplay advantage IMO.

Re: MVP 05 vs. MLB the Show

I am actually playing MVP NCAA and The Show (I played MVP 05 as well). The MVP engine is still my favorite. I wish EA would have gone next gen w/it!!! The Show has a greater amount of variety w/animations which are for the most part "smoother" then MVP. However, The Show does reflect a more digital look to the game of baseball. I believe that the pitcher batter interface belongs to MVP. The release of the ball by the pitcher always looked a little off to me in the Show. In MVP the context is much better! Franchise mode belongs to MVP -- they just do a good job with implementing everything. I love stadiums in the Show. The touchups this year are worth recommending! I believe that The Show has more little things or variables in the game that make it worth watching. In sum, I like both games. If EA made a game for next gen I'd be on it providing they stick to the same formula (which may not work now that Brinkmn is gone).

How is the hitting compared to MVP.

Is it just as hard, easier or harder?

It's been a while OS. Hope all are doing well!

Me. I am staying with MVP. There's something about THE SHOW that seems to be missing. Not sure if it's when I am hitting I feel as if it's all a big mystery as to what the ball will do when it comes off the bat. Good thing I only rented it.

              Pros on the Show
              Stadiums look really nice
              Player of the game
the adaptive announcing if only it was Matt Vaskersion(spell). The other 2 can go to hell with their stupid one liners.
The whos hot and whos not
Also there is some nice stat keeping.

              Cons on the Show
              Zone Hitting
throw meter is hard to read/figure out for fielders or lack there of.
Hard to read pitches (my opinion)
No previous at bat pitch history
              no fantasy draft
They need to have a number system for attributes, not a bar graph.
can't pick what jerseys to where in franchise.
Oh, I also don't like the fact that the strikezone disappears. Maybe that's why I can't hit. I have no easy gauge to base a ball/strike off of.

I'm sure there are other little nick picks and stuff that I like/dislike, but don't really feel like getting into it.

I totally disagree with you guys....but that's another story!
However..Major...there is a fantasy draft in MLB The Show'07.
...AND there is a previous at bat pitch history...if you hit it before a pitch is thrown in the current at bat...
....AND....the strikezone is in place...it's "see through" but it's there...
...and.... are you sure it was THE SHOW you were playing?

Sorry, I was unaware of the fantasy draft. Does it allow you to include the historic players? That's what I was refering too. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, I am aware of the at bat history, but it is only for the previous 1 at bat. If it's my 3rd time up, I can't see what they threw to me my first at bat. This goes for pitching too. Actually when you are pitching, doesn't it show just balls and strikes on the pitch history and not what types of pitches you threw.

The strikezone is in place, but as soon as the pitcher releases the ball it disappears competely. In MVP the zone remains. Maybe not the hot/cold, but at least the outline is there.

                  Yep.

They're both good games but I prefer The Show over MVP. FOR ME it plays better on the field and most importantly it has a career (RTTS) mode.

Re: MVP 05 vs. MLB the Show

The funny thing about the debate is that there is a feel to each game. Even after playing one game you can feel the difference between MVP and the Show. I personally love the Show. MVP '05 was the first baseball game I played in awhile and I loved it at the time but the Show just felt better.

I won't get into the endless debates again about the hitting systems, etc. but just put me down as Show > MVP.

                          Ha!...Wouldn't THAT be great...(a Wendy's meal I mean )...

I see what you mean in your other post. Yes....a pitch history for all your at-bats wouls be nice...

Sadly...for fantasy draft I believe it's only for the default rosters. Having the old-timers in there would be excellent.

I really like MVP, but right now I'd have to say the Show tops it. The games each have a certain feel, and there are positives and negatives for each.

There is one negative in MVP that right now just bugs me to no end. Now that I'm noticing it, I'm not sure if I can go back to MVP for another season. The problem: Human spray chart. When I am batting, it is virtually impossible to hit the ball ahrd down either line. Most solid hits go up the middle or to either LC or RC. I just think it's a result of the batting engine being so reliant on timing. I really miss shots down the line in MVP when I see them every game in the Show.
