Re: Seriously thinking of purchasing ASB but....

I do live in Texas, not Austin...anyhow, even he won't come completely clean with the features, but he did tell me they have spent hours and hours getting the simulation of baseball down. The one thing Acclaim didn't want to happen is the need for sliders. They felt that sliders were to fix the mistakes the programmers made. So the effort has been to make baseball right, no need for sliders. I've been told its very good simulation. He showed me some stats and they look pretty good, an occaisional guy has a " big year" but we see that in real baseball. And he said they did that for that particular reason. But I didn't see any 80-90 homerun seasons, however at the rate bonds, sosa, Arod are going, that maybe in the plans very soon.. I think ASB will be done great. For some reason however, I'm not liking the player models as much this year....MVP looks great. But no one and I mean no one beats ASB's stadiums. Just in case you didn't know, ASB has future stadiums that teams move into in the Franchise..my buddie said any stadium on the plans as of right now will be in the game. I think through 2008

I hear ya Nikeford, i'm just glad that the made the outfield dimensions bigger this year, they needed to do that!
Have you noticed from the movies of how many different umpires are in the game callin' balls and strikes... I mean different sounding umpires! I'll bet there's 8 to 10 different sounding umps! Amazing! I have seen tons of different catch animations as well! Also from lookin' at the player models it looks as if they used the body scaling, for ex: Bonds vs Ruth.... You can tell Ruth is heavier, but I really like the models in MVP. They look really good!
I'm very anxious to get my hands
        on a copy of ASB!

            Hey welcome back nikeford.

ASB has a lot of features and okay gameplay, but i still thing it's one of the better baseball games this year. I'm getting it because of expansion (and some other reasons).

From a pitching standpoint, you could get pretty good/accurate pitch counts if you used the hot/cold zones and really worked the hitters. But from a hitting standpoint, the cpu didn't throw enough balls/issue enough walks, unfortunately. They supposedly fixed that this year, though, so we'll see.

Last year, I felt like ASB had the least amount of ground to make up when it came to things like that, i.e., basic fundamental baseball points, and I'm hopeful that they were able to address most (if not all) of the things that were just a little bit off last year, e.g., the afore-mentioned cpu pitching issue, pitchers still fielding infield flys, etc. Especially since they didn't go for a major graphic upgrade this year.

Last year ASB was my game of choice but this year i think if the reviews are good go for EA's MVp baseball. I like the whole momentum idea and being able to sim games and then in the middle of the game cut in and play if you want

and you introduce MVP in here because...? No scratch that, ASB is an okay choice (it's the most rewarding, but the gameplay is only okay). Other games are good at gameplay, you're call there chief!
