Re: Anybody reading Guru\'s posts about ASB over at SR?

Ckeck this Q&A post I did at SR, I found it pretty informative.
Note: I copyed and pasted it (no link)- I hope that's OK...

            1) I know it's probally a touchie subject but I never found out, why weren't we able to save our custom rosters in ASB 2003? Did you're tester realize they missed it? It must have been a "hot bottom issue" at the time of release.

Not sure how that got missed. It feels like years since 2003.... but that problem has been fixed for 2004. You can edit rosters, save them, make moves outside of your franchise, etc.

            2) Why was the PS2 release push back to March 4/5? Will the rosters be more updated than the other two versions? Doubt it, but had to ask.

I honestly don't deal much with release dates. I can tell you that sometimes it takes a bit longer to get one version through quality control than another. There are different testing procedures for each console, different standards you have to meet, etc.

            3) Will we have access to minor leaguers/farm team in the non-franchise modes (reagular roster management mode)? Can we trade minor leaguers from team to team, without calling them up first? These two things would help keep the rosters accurate.

You can trade minor league guys for other minor leaguers, or trade minor league guys for major leaguers.... there's no limits to the combination of guys you throw at a team trying to get a trade through, other than the number of players (you can trade a maximum of 3 guys or pick up a maximum of 3 guys). The coolest part of that is the Future's Game during the All-Star weekend.... pay attention to the players, because it's a good way to scout guys, see who you want to pick up, etc. I'm not 100% sure about your level of access to them when not in the franchise, so I'm going to check on that before I answer.

            4) When editing a player is everthing changeable? Including there name?

You can change their name and just about every other attribute of the player. A good example is Wilson Betemit... he didn't qualify to go into the game this year because he didn't make the Braves squad at all last season, so I had to create him. I chose a guy in my minors instead of going through the create a player, edited his attributes, found the face that looked most like Betemit, and was done. Instant Betemit.

            5) Are the "scab players" in the game.... under fictious name? Or do you guys consider this to be a waste of a roster spot because we could just create them anyway.

We don't use fictional players to represent real players not in the MLBPA. They are easy enough to create though, if you so choose. Just go to ESPN.com, look up the player's attributes, a go to town in either the player editor or create a player.

            6) In general, How accurate are the farm teams this year(in general # of real prospects)? Are there still alot of ficitious players? Is it true that they must have played one game last year to be included?

I'm not absolutely sure what qualifies a guy for the MLBPA, but if they weren't on the MLB team last year, they aren't in the game this year. That's a licensing issue, and is out of our hands. There are several top prospects in the game, and most of you will be happy with the players included.

            7) Is it true that the stadiums that will be added in 2004(Min, SD,Phil) are in this years game? Are they playable in non-franchise mode? Actually are any of the non MLB stadiums playable in exhibition mode?

Yes, we have future stadiums for several teams, including the ones you listed and the Yankees, Mets, etc. They are all playable in exhibition mode, and they all have stadium tours as well. The artists did a great job this year, and ASB weighs in with 75 stadiums total.

Lastly, I loved ASB 2003's gameplay but I was wondering does ASB 2004 have a different "flow to it"? Meaning has the gameplay been improved upon, and if so how(Example)?

The gameplay has been much improved. The AI is much better, and you'll notice it right away in the batter/pitcher interface. The CPU is much smarter this year in the way it tries to set you up, and you will find yourself thinking like a major leaguer in no time.... hmmmmmm, fastball up and away, watch out for the change up down and in. Also you'll notice a big improvement in the outfield.... not nearly as many dramatic "Willy" catches, which results in a greater hit variety and more fun while at the plate. The "flow" of the game is better with more dramatic gameplay cameras, less automatic instant replays, and user controlled instant replays. I could go on and on about the gameplay... just make sure to try all the different difficulty levels, the different cursors/zone batting techniques, and the different pitch types. I'm sure you'll find the right combination for you.

I was just reading that thread over at SR, and there is definitely some good stuff there. Go check it out, because the cut and paste in this thread stops at point #8, but they actually go up to #16. Unless it's all BS, it really sounds like they've made a lot of improvements/tweaks to this years game.

I noticed he said that all stadiums are playable in exhibition mode.

Am I to assume that you can't play in whichever stadium you want in season / franchise mode?

I love switching stadiums from game to game --- sure it's a simulation game, but it's still a fantasy game

I hope stadiums can be changed in season mode.
