    MLB Power Pros Tips Thread

Ok, so there is a lot of hidden stuff in this game that only someone who's played for years would know from reading forums everyday. Here is what I know...

-After throwing to the first baseman to end an inning, press R1 to flip the ball to the first base coach.

-Rapidly press all four shoulder buttons to hustle just a bit more while running bases. Great for stealing bases, touching up, and getting infield hits.

-I haven't seen it yet, but you could have an outfielder throw the ball into the stands by pressing R1 at the end of an inning in the Japanese series. Try it out. You'll probably have to make a catch near one of the walls.

-Press R2 before pitching for a pitch out.

-This isn't really a trick but more for the new fans who don't know the series well. On defense, press square to lunge for the ball(takes a lot out of your throw), X to dive, and triangle to jump. In the outfield, square will also allow you to make a butt sliding style catch. It's a lot safer than laying out to make the catch. I'm pretty sure the lunge is how you'll be able to do the Derek Jeter style jump throw. Also, when you're catching a fly ball, give yourself a bit of room and throw with momentum to get some extra zip on the ball. This is the only true way to make an amazing throw to the plate.

I know I'm forgetting some stuff, so I'll post again in the near future.

Good stuff, I'll have to post the Gamecube controller equivalents when I find the time. The only little one I recall was that tilting the C-stick while pitching would make your pitcher grab the little chalk bag thingie for a bit then drop it. Don't think it ever actually did anything other than play a neat animation.

With the right camera angle you can also see the umpire clean home plate during the side change. Not really a gameplay tip, just a cool detail.

This just reminded me of a few more things...

When using digipad controls, hold L1 while batting to make the cursor move super slow. I'm not 100% sure this is in the game, but it's been in all previous games, so I don't see why not. The purpose of this trick is so you can hit like 100 homers in a row in homerun derby. I should probably try it, since hitting 100 homers in previous games would unlock all of the old hall of fame players. WARNING, I am 99.999999% sure there are no HOF major league players in this game.

I'm not 100% sure if touching the rosin bag does anything, other than reset what pitch you selected. I know in Pro Yakyu Spirits, it makes release timing a bit better when you've pitched deep into a game and find your grip getting worse. Perhaps this works in the same way in Power Pros?

Pressing the X button rapidly will increase the speed of your pitches. I know most people already know this, but I'm putting it here for archive purposes.

For people having problems with fielding, I have these two VERY important tips.

L1 switches to the closest player to the ball. Holding R1 locks the cursor onto the current fielder no matter what. This is important to know for gap hits because you'll want the best arm out there to handle the ball. You'll also want to take advantage of this on infield pop ups that you don't want your pitcher to handle.

Press L1 during a run down to fake a throw. This could be pointless against the CPU, but it'll work great against friends.

Isn't there also a way to intentionally bean a hitter? I don't remember if it was a button you held or just a combination of pitch location and where the batter is in the box.

I might be wrong about grabbing the resin bag thing - I read somewhere else that it supposedly cuts back on the chance you'll throw a wild pitch. Haven't confirmed this anywhere else though, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

More tips. Move the digipad or analog stick during a throw from the outfield to take control of the pitcher and cut off the throw. This takes a bit of practice to master, but you'll be able to catch runners trying to sneak into second sometimes. Most likely they're players with the aggressive baserunning attribute.

Press select while playing defense to have the score flash up on the screen. Pointless? Yes.

When looking at attributes for your Success player in My Data, press up up down down left right left right L1 R1 to get access to the attributes for all the players in the game. Kinda pointless with the edit mode and triangle lets you access attributes. This trick had a lot more value in previous Pawapuro titles.

Any baserunning tips? I know how to hold runners, etc., but it seems I am rarely given the chance to make this decision on my own.

touching the rosin bag also resets ur defense.

On the GC controller you need to hit X repeatedly near the wall to climb it with a guy with the "spiderman" attribute.
