MLB Power Pros Diffuculty Settings Thread

With the wide variety of difficulty settings in this game what is everyone using to get realistic games / stats? I have tested all the settings and am leaning toward Expert difficulty with the CPU pitching cranked to Allstar and my lock on at one (1). I don't get a whole lot of hits using these but figure when I start my season the game will become easier the more I play.

Re: MLB Power Pros Diffuculty Settings Thread

After tinkering with the settings and playing several games I thought I had come up with a good set and began my season. After about 8 games I had won one game and my team ERA was about 9.00. Back to the drawing board. Here were the settings I was using.

      Overall diffuculty at Expert.
Everything else at Expert unless noted below:

      Strike Zone off.
Moving Cursor or whatever it's called is ON.

      User:
Batting is set to lock on at one (1).

      CPU:
      Pitching: Allstar
      Baserunning: Normal
      Fielding: Normal
      Batting: Normal, no "lock on.

I am getting realistic results with my batting using these settings, batting in the .268 range after 8 games. I give up way too many hits though. I have tried Allstar pitching for my pitchers with these settings but then it seems like I strike the CPU out too much. Going to have to do more testing.

Control: Analog(Did digital before, but it's just too difficult with the way the CPU paints corners.)

Difficulty: All Expert(Will probably tweak when I realize faults. Pitch counts are best on Expert.)

        Pitching Type: Expert

        CPU Pitch Cursor: Off

        Both Pitch Cursor Types: Point

        Fielding Cursor: Off

        Batting Cursor: Normal

        Batting and Fielding Camera: Classic

That's about it. I'll either bring CPU batting up to Allstar or turn off my pitch cursor, since it's too easy to pitch on Expert.

This may seem like a "duh" question, but I want to clarify what the CPU difficulties do.

If you move the CPU batting up to Expert, will they hit better, or does that make hitting more difficult? If I set my own difficulty settings to expert, I'd expect the game to be harder for me, but I'm not clear on what affect it has on the CPU.

"Expert" batting is in the middle range as far the CPU hitting. If you want the CPU to hit better move it to Allstar or up further to Powerful. If you want the CPU to hit "not as good" move it down to, I believe its called Normal, or down further to Novice. One would think "Expert" would be the highest level but its not, or at least doesn't appear to be.

Here's what I have the CPU settings on:

              Hitting - All-Star
              Pitching - Powerful
              Fielding - Powerful
              Baserunning - All-Star
              Batting cursor - Normal

I think these provide the best settings, at least for me. Try this for CPU vs. CPU games as well. :P

I am confident I would get "owned" even more than I am now with the CPU settings you have. What setting do you have for the overall difficulty? Strange how this game as an overall difficulty setting then you can set hitting, pitching, baserunning and fielding to something different. Kinda like having sliders though if one thinks about it. Just a matter of tinkering until you find the right settings for your level of skill. I'm just not there yet.

I did the same thing as him, only I have everything at All-Star except Pitching, which is on Powerful. Right now I'm 0 - 4 with San Francisco, and with my realigned division I've played 3 against the Cubs and 1 against the Astros. Soriano has hit two walk-offs against me already (damn Benitez!).

One thing, though... it seems as though the pitcher used to throw a lot more balls in Exhibition... that, or on Expert mode. He's always throwing first pitch strikes. Not that it's easy to hit still, it actually seems harder, but pitchers can throw complete games because they don't tire out. In the first game, Wood threw 11 innings, then they finally replaced him. Can anyone confirm/deny what different pitching difficulty levels do?

Well, I do have Baserunning and Fielding on Semi-Auto (Powerful AI) and my batting is on Lock-On Level 3 with Expert pitching controls. I won by way of a walk-off home run (was behind by 3 runs pretty much the whole game). This was my first game with Expert pitching controls, so I may have had some trouble in early innings. :P

Honestly, I'm not seeing a huge difference between the AI pitch difficulties. Maybe they throw a LITTLE bit harder and hit the corners more but if they're supposed to be pitching smarter or throwing more balls I'm certainly not seeing it.

I think they pitch about the same from expert to Powerful except for how the cursor works. It jumps all around on Powerful and that makes it a bit harder to lock on. I think that's how this game does difficulty.

It's kinda weird...on Watch mode I see a definite difference in the pitching levels as Powerful throws a ton of balls to make hitters chase (but still not walk much, unfortunately ) but when I play against a Powerful level CPU pitcher it's nothing like that at all - like you guys mentioned, it's throwing way too many strikes.

On that note, I've found a pretty good Pitcher-Batter watch mode setting - Powerful pitching and All-Star hitting. The pitching is good enough that it will get some K's, but the AS hitting keeps it in check by letting the CPU have some good plate coverage (it will actually foul off some tough pitches just off the plate). Unfortunately, despite the balance they still don't walk, and I doubt anything short of player editing is going to change that.

I'm not sure about the Running and Fielding options yet.

I've had trouble with cpu pitch counts with the cpu pitching on Powerful. They rarely throw balls.

Recently I played a game with CPU pitching on All-Star, everything else for the CPU on all-star, too. Results were ok, though I wasn't hitting well (my hitting = Lock On 1). I got 8 or 9 hits, but no runs and lost 2-0. My pitch count was a little low, but ok. I wish there was a control option. I walked a few, but I had Wakefield.

I think that I will settle with most settings at All-Star or Powerful. Maybe it will be best to have CPU pitching on All-Star or even a bit lower, and drop my hitting to Normal instead of Lock-On 1.

I've found that I really enjoy having the strike zone off. Things look less cluttered, and it's pretty easy to get an understanding of the strike zone.

Other settings I use are the pitch cursor on with ball (not point). I tried a game with the pitching set to expert, but still my pitchers' velocity seems low. I think those are it for relevant settings.

I'll have a better post soon once I get some consistent results.

Okay, so this game is officially frustrating me. Not like that... this game is great. It's FANTASTIC! But I can't for the life of me win a game! I know that I can just change difficulty, but not since I started my season. The hitters on the other team just always make contact perfectly, and the most appropriate fielder is never selected. Finally, the pitchers are throwing too many strikes. I don't recall them throwing this many when I was playing Exhibition.

How the hell do you win in this game on All Star difficulty settings? I don't want to have to restart my entire season. Granted, I know a way to, but it would only give my starter a maximum of about 5 innings. I'm getting okay numbers hitting, and I can change those options even if I weren't. I just wish I could walk, though.
