I know that I can just change difficulty, but not since I started my season. The hitters on the other team just always make contact perfectly, and the most appropriate fielder is never selected. Finally, the pitchers are throwing too many strikes. I don't recall them throwing this many when I was playing Exhibition.

How the hell do you win in this game on All Star difficulty settings? I don't want to have to restart my entire season. Granted, I know a way to, but it would only give my starter a maximum of about 5 innings. I'm getting okay numbers hitting, and I can change those options even if I weren't. I just wish I could walk, though.
I was and may still be in the same boat. I have my overall difficulty set at Expert with my pitching to the CPU set at Expert as well. They pitch All Star to me and like you I am satisfied with the number of hits and runs I get. To lower the CPU hits I set my fielding to semi-auto. I was not getting to / reacting quick enough (I'm pretty old...really) with my fielding set to manual. With semi-auto it will help your fielders get a jump on the ball and you will get to the balls you should get to. I had been getting blown out but I actually held the CPU to under 10 hits and won a couple of games last night. Of course mix speeds and location and hit the corners. Every once in awhile throw one right down the middle and they will be surprised and either not swing or miss it. They will also drill it over the wall once in awhile as well (my disclaimer). I tried my pitching to the CPU set to Allstar but they struck out too many times so I am sticking to Expert and will take my lumps till I become better.

Another thing, you can change at least some of the settings while in season. On the main season menu go down, can't remember exactly which menu choice it is but it is there, click on it and there is the options menu. Use R or L to go to the different screens, change what you want and it should save when you save the season. Know that this is a different options menu than the one you can go to right before you start a game. Hope this helps.

I may end up editing all the pitchers control down 10-20 points.

Last noght I played 2 exhibition games. The first was against the Braves and Smoltz. I could barely get to 3 balls, even when trying to work the count. The second game I played was against the Cards and Kip Wells. His control is at F, and you could tell the difference between him and Smoltz. I still didn't walk, but I did get to 3 balls in the count a number of times.

After the game I've been checking out the stats, particularly the pitch charts. There is a screen in the stats that shows exactly where every pitch was thrown. The CPU pitchers are throwing balls if you look at the chart. I think the lack of walks is a combination of swinging at too many bad pitches and the CPU forcing a strike when it needs one. Dropping everyones control a notch may help. At least I'm going to try it and see what happens.

I've noticed the same thing; the CPU is throwing pitches out of the zone. But I've also realized the batting camera is 'tilted' slightly towards the opposite field.

What this does is 'skews' the strike zone. It makes outside pitches that look like balls become strikes, and inside pitches that look like strikes balls. I've been letting up on more inside pitches, and getting to much deeper counts because of it.

I'm also learning to foul off pitches as well. But even if (and I can't believe I'm about to say this) I don't draw lots of walks, I'm okay with that. This game is too much fun regardless.

I'm looking to pick this game up and I was curious if someone could explain all the different difficulty settings and what the differences are between the settings?

          Any info would be appreciated.

playing on AI all-star pitching+batting, powerful fielding and baserunning.
i think classic view is best for batting.
D on manual. like i said b4, once u get used to it, u'll make more plays than even the automatic AI.
AI D often seems to misjudge dives and jumps.

adjust lock if u have trouble hitting. don't always use power swing, especially with guys with no power.

seems i have a lot more success with breaking balls than heaters.
mix in a lot of backdoor sliders, curves. AI just takes em a lot of the time,, but not ALWAYS.
even high sinkers, splitters that drop into the zone work too.
            just don't over use em.

move infield back for no one on base, and slow runners.

            hope it helped a bit

Re: MLB Power Pros Diffuculty Settings Thread

I'm a little frustrated because I don't know what to do to give myself a realistic offense. With powerful CPU pitching and my hitting on Lock-1, I am too silenced. If I drop pitching down to All-Star, I am getting a pretty decent offense. Maybe TOO much. Maybe not.

What I'm worried about is my adjustment as far as a season goes. Am I better off leaving the pitching on powerful and hoping to get better with my Lock-1 hitting? Should I drop the pitching back down to All-Star (or maybe lower?) and change my hitting to Normal? I don't want to end up with a team of all .350 hitters.

Also, the lack of balls thrown has produced games in which I rarely get deep into the CPU pen (or mine). What have people done to combat this?

Finally, and sorry because this may be in the wrong thread, but I switched to Expert pitching so that I wouldn't have to tap AAAAAA to get top velocity. However, even on Expert, Josh Beckett, for instance, doesn't even touch the 90s. What is everyone's experience with this?

The walks are quite rare in the game....I got 2 walks in one game which shocked the hel out of me.

On the velocity....put pitching on Expert instead of Classic......put it to the release point pitching style....much better

I have switched to Expert, but as I mentioned, I'm still seeing low velocity. Does the accuracy of hitting A at the right time affect velocity as well as location? Even so, I'm never seeing 90+ mph, and the Red Sox have plenty of guys who should put it up there in the 90s.

The highest I've gotten Beckett to throw is 95....he should be getting up to around 96 or 97.

Are you using Expert or Classic, Matrix? Like I said, I can't get him even in the 90s on Expert.

Guapo, on EXPERT, you have to hold down the pitch button as you make your selection. The longer you hold, the stronger the pitch.

Just got the game and have a ton of questions.

So what are most people batting on Lock or Normal. If lock, what level? I think I've been playing on Lock-2? What does that number 2 mean? What's the difference between using Lock batting and Normal batting. Also, what does raising and lowering the lock number do?

So far with Lock-2 hitting, I haven't been able to hit the ball hard. I'm making decent contact but the ball doesn't seem to go anywhere (just weekly hit balls)

Just looking for some good settings. Also, it seems like everyone is using Hum pitching on Expert. What changes when you change it to expert? Why is that better?

                          Thanks for all the info.

I actually think I started my season on "Normal", because I was trying to get used to the controls and stuff.....and I realized you cant change it midway through the season.
