Don't put much faith into the IGN Review, my friend. From the breif snippets I have read and from what was omitted from the review, such as new AI, etc, I heard it was pretty much a hack job.
Considering that the reviewer did not mention their were four different batting styles, including the 2D which I'm interested in, I'd hold off worries until you actually play.
