First off there is no magic to hitting in 2004, It's challenging and alot of us where pampered with games like WSB and High Heat. This game is one of the toughest games to hit consistantly that I have played since Front Page Sports Baseball 98 (without any of the aids and pitch locators.) It is simply all about improving your hand/eye reflexes. Here is the best way to increase your contact in the game. But first let me clear up a few things about ASB 2003 to 2004 that may help some people put it in perspective
The hitting definitely is harder in this game...you REALLY need to have your cursor on the ball to make contact.....Last year the pitcher would almost throw to your cursor and even if you were in the 'neigborhood' of the ball, you would hit it and hit it solidly at times....this year, they seemed to have buckled down on the 'in the vicinity' contact.....I wouldnt worry about hitting to easily this year for those of you who asked me about the ease of 2004 because you were rippin the ball apart in 2003.
With that said and out of the way, those of you that simply are getting frustrated all together with trying to make contact....I'll give you a pretty simple but effective tip. It's going to sound obvious but trust me, you may be doing this out of simple habit from older games that had slower pitch speeds. When the pitcher releases the ball from his hands, FOLLOW the BALL and try to instinctively move your cursor toward the ball RATHER than watching your cursor and waiting for the ball to enter it.....I was doing this instinctively too but if you play this way, you wont have enough time to get around on alot of stuff....try and practice following the ball from the pitchers release and not sit and wait for the ball to enter your cursor. Follow the ball and let your fingers instinctively move the cursor toward it...itll take some time getting used to and will feel akward at first but trust me, you will start to get the timing down of it and get better results. My first game, I had only 2 hits waiting and watching my cursor....the second game, I followed the release of the ball and quickly reacted toward the ball, and had 8 hits and 1 HR.
ASB2004 is tougher than 2003 but with a little practice, you'll get there! It's worth it...from the games I have played all day I can truly say this is a very welcom improvement over 2003....Im just seeing so much extra stuff ON the field that it's still impressing me. And the Franchise play is extremely deep and feature rich. Dont give up.
