    ASB2004 - criticisms and observations

I have played about 10 games and here are some thoughts so far:

1.)For the love of God Acclaim, please give us sliders for pitching speed. Many are having trouble with the speeds and it seems like such a feature should be a no-brainer for any baseball game. There really is no excuse for this. And as an aside, I know Acclaim aims to make their game ready to go straight out of the box, but there should be a plethora of sliders, ala HH. Everyone has different skill levels and the more adjustable a game is the better, period.

2.)Almost every throw from an OF is right on line to the base they are throwing to. The level of accuracy is way too high. Very few throws are even a few feet off line.

3.)For the love of God Acclaim (part 2), ditch the auto camera switch on a HR. Supposedly this was toned down, but I am seeing no proof of that. Every HR so far switched the "HR camera angle" and the announcer proclaims it a HR before it is halfway out of the park. I want suspense, dammit!

Hit variation is indeed better. Gameplay as a whole (hit variety, baserunning, pitching AI, HR frequency) is light years beyond last years game (so far, anyway).

Pitcher stamina is also much improved from last year. Serious kudos to Acclaim for listening to the complaints from last year's game.

Graphically the game is way above average. Not perfect, but very, very good. Pitching form and batting stances are dead-on for the most part. Stadiums are gorgeous. The future stadiums and classic ballparks are wonderful as well.

In the future I would like to see an all-time roster for each MLB team. All-time Yankees, Cardinals, Dodgers, etc. This may not be easy due to individual rights, but the legends players kick some serious ***. And kudos for including the Negro League players. They deserve the spotlight for once.

Games are indeed faster paced than last year, and the in-game option kicks serious butt.

Audio is adequate and play-by-play is decent as well. It is well done, but nothing earth shattering.

I am having the most fun using the exaggerated pitching and zone batting. Try each batting system and both pitching options. You should find something that works for you EVEN THOUGH A SPEED SLIDER SHOULD BE A NO-BRAINER!

The game is very well done overall. There are tons of options and things to do. I would give the game a solid 8 overall. Definitely worth a look. And this is coming from someone who thinks the HH series is head and shoulders above the rest as far as gameplay is concerned. I am VERY anxious to try HH2004 once it is released for X-Box. For now, ASB2004 is a very worthy option. Peace out!

this is the great "deal-breaker" for me. We dont even have the option to turn it off. Very Triple Play-ish.

Acclaim is not getting my 50 bones this year..

Odd...of the 5 HRs I have seen hit, only 2 were cut scenes.

            My only gripes are:

            1) Very hard to hit...
            2) a bit too many catches by IF running back into OF
            3) broken bat animation too often (maybe because I can't hit??!!??)
            4) announcing is fair at best and sometimes lags behind action
            5) Try hitting Felix..the closer for the Giants...yikes!!

My biggest gripe so far has not even been mentioned, I don't think. I'm having a huge problem catching fly balls and I know it shouldn't be this hard. When a ball is hit to the outfield, I move the fielder as close to the center of the blue circle as possible, but the guy doesn't catch it in the air most of the time. This is crazy. I must have missed 6 or 8 fly balls in my first game because of this. I know that if you get the guy in the right place, the fielder animation kicks in and you catch the ball, but sometimes you don't have the time to get the animation and that's where the problem is. I'm sure this will get better the more I play, but I have never had this problem with any video baseball game.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Badgun put your fielder closer to home plate instead of in the center of the circle. In other words put him in the circle along the inner edge closest to where the ball is coming from. I had the same problem.

That's correct. The target is where the ball will hit, not where to stand. Stand just in front of it .
