    Re: Some ASB Gameplay issues

Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it.

Let me clarify a few things:
I do have my fielding set to manual.

My batting I switch dependig on the pitcher I am facing.
If it's a real good pitcher I go with easy or zone.
If it's an average pitcher I go zone to cursor (or regular whatever its called)
I am seeing a disporportionate amount of fly balls with the CPU batting AND my batting. When I bat I don't swing up or anything like that.

Are you guys seeing an equal amount of fly balls and ground balls?

Thanks for the comments and tips, keep them coming, I want to enjoy this game, so I want to know what everyone else is experiencing.

        Re: Some ASB Gameplay issues

Ok I did an un-scientific type expirment, but tried to make it as fair as possible. I was getting real concerend with the amount of FLy balls, and the very small amount of ground balls IN ASB 2004. So I played one game a peice, with the same teams, One game on ASB 2004, one on HH 2004.
I ttook two very good ground ball pithcers and tried to induce and invite groundballs even more, by trying to make good pitches to get groundballs. Although not scientific cuase I only played one game, here is my setup and results:

I was the Braves both times with Maddux one of the best groundball pitchers, vs. the Angels Shonewiess who was in the top 5 % of GB pitchers last year.

        ASB GAME
        Angels 3 Braves 2
        Maddux pitched complete game
CPU put in Callaway to get the save for some reason, not Perc.
Both teams combined for 8 ground balls.
The game was played on All Star, with Manual fielding and Zone hitting.

        HIGH HEAT GAME
        Angels 3 Braves 0
        Both pitchers pitched complete games
The HH boxscore gives you the groundball: flyball ratio, kinda cool. it was something like 19:15 for Angels, and Braves 20:15.

That means in ASB both teams totally 8 ground balls.
HH the teams totalled 39 groundball with a pretty equal amount of Ground balls to fly balls.

I've borught this up on another board, but I'd like to get your thoughts here as well..
I really want to like this game, it has everything that HH does not, or does it better. It is very very close to greatness. But this little groundball to flyball issues is buggin me. I welcome your thoughts,,,,,Is anyone seeing anything similiar to this in their games? A disproportionate amount of Fly balls versus Ground balls?

I haven't done any type of testing between the two games, I'm just now going out to get HH, but I have noticed that I hit 90% fly balls in ASB. This would be to bad if the Computer didn't make unrealistic cataches all the time.

I was once robbed a HR with A-Rod when the NPC jumped BEFORE the warning track and the ball took a good 90 degree angle into his glove. I had to watch it 50 times before I could believe it. Because of this A-Rod only hit 28 HR in my season(I went a head a simmed the rest of the way through).

I've had this happen to me a number of times, but only when playing against someone else. I've also heard of it happening to other people, but again, only when playing against a person. I don't think it's a problem in a franchise.

I also think that there are WAY too many flyballs in this game. I use zone hitting, but both me and the CPU hit about 85% of the balls in the air. I get maybe 1 or two hits that hit the ground before they reach the outfield.

                                My Gripes:

I suck at this game. I have easy hitting on rookie, and am hitting .200 through 4 spring training games, with one homer. Walter Johnson gave up 14 runs in the last pickup game I played. Those are more my problems than Acclaim's.

Their problems are 1) the cornfield. You cannot see anything coming out of the pitchers hand. And 2) only 25 man rosters in spring training? Come on, I want to be able to use 40 guys.

Also, would it be too much to ask for spring training uniforms and stadiums? Instead of having dual versions of future stadiums and passing them off as expansion stadiums, plus having 2 versions of Riverfront, add Joker Merchant and Vero Beach. And maybe put deserving older stadiums like Cleveland Municipal or Baltimore Memorial.
