Peter Moore and EA chomping @ the bit to get back into baseball?!

I have my latest Game Informer magazine(April issue) and there is an interesting article in there in which GI interviews Peter Moore. And in the interview he is asked:

...Will you attempt to get back into the MLB market when 2K's exclusive expires?

Peter Moore: "Not having baseball as part of our portfolio pains me a little bit. I respect the fact that there is an exclusive arrangement there that precludes us from doing anything there. Having said that, when the time is right, I've got very good relationships with MLB and I've got a lot of people that work there who worked with me at Reebok that are good friends. I look forward to, at the very least, having a conversation with them when the time is right for how EA can get back in baseball."....

The article/inteview is on page 30 of the magazine.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Good news! Maybe they can create something better than MLB 2k, that series is going down hill.

Will you still think it is good news when they buy the exclusive license and we no longer have MLB the show? Then we will have two lame duck games for the two biggest sports in the US. Very bad news in my opinion. If EA would still allow competition from Sony, then I agree it would be good news from a baseball standpoint because 2K has turned the World Series franchise into a joke.

If they don't buy Take Two I hope 2k just extends the license like what EA did with the NFL.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

That would work too! But Take-Two is ruining 2k, I think they could care less what happens to 2ksports. I love 2ksports, and I hope someone truly picks them up, and gives them a bigger budget! I think the whole visual concepts team has talent and ideas, that Take-Two just doesn't allow them to explore! I think the real big thing that ruined MLB 2k series, is the old graphics engine, they couldn't do more there, so they decided to tamper with gameplay features, that were for the worse!

I doubt EA would want to piss off Sony, they'll probably go for the 3rd party license like 2k.

I hope they would not want to do that, but you never know. The only reassuring fact is that at least Sony has enough money and pull to go head to head for that license.

You know, I've been thinking. Why MLB would go exclusive again is beyond me. The exclusive they did with 2K didn't pan out, overall, and the best baseball game is arguably made by guys they didn't give the rights directly to. I would love to see all the other companies allowed to jump back in the fray, and I bet MLB could actually increase the general price for it's license across the board, making a solid profit still. There were so many good things brought to the table by various developers, that it would be awesome to see how they all interpreted a next gen baseball game. Not syaing they won't go exclusive again, but it is a shame. With football it's different. While I personally thought 2K made a better playing game, Madden has been, and will continue to be extremely popular. Madden IS footbal to most gamers (this mainly implies casual) so an exclusive license actually makes sense in this case for the NFL (purely from a profit standpoint). I miss the days of having 2-3 solid football games to choose from and about 5+ baseball games. Ahh, well...

It makes plenty of sense for them. They got paid by Take Two and they still have another company who's paying to use the license every year.

But it would be smarter to let more than just 2 companies do it!

EA specifically could return MVP series, it would also give them more reason to make College Baseball to draft over to MVP series.

I'm sure a bunch of people would be celebrating to have MVP series back in the competition bracket.

lol at your extreme wishful thinking. In what world would it be smarter? What about all the "it makes perfect business sense - sucks for us" rationalizing most of you make when EA makes deals like this? There isn't a single EA exclusive that is a "shared" exclusive - NASCAR, FIFA, the NFL, etc. - only EA can make games for those leagues. People really think EA would want to have to compete against The Show if it didn't have to? The same company that made a statement about APF's existence (or how it shouldn't exist, if I remember correctly)? I said it in another thread awhile back - I read the comment in Game Informer and thought immediately that if they get back into making MLB games, the only thing that would stop them from buying the license is if MLB had an NBA-like epiphany. And since MLB has already shown they're willing to go exclusive, I'd think it'd just be a matter of how much money it would take to take out The Show.

Even people here were saying it was stupid for Take Two to go for limited exclusivity. Even though it resulted in people having a choice for baseball games. People may hate 2K because of the limited choice, but at least there is a choice. I'd love to have the option to play another NFL/NASCAR/FIFA/etc. game on the PS3. It ain't happenin'

Peter Moore is a more rational person that who ever ran the sports series prior. Also from his past history, he's done great things, remember he is the originator of the 2ksports series, when we enjoyed them, and competition was key with him them. You nor I know what he will do we'll just have to wait and see.

Regardless 2ksports is about to die, thanks to Take-Two lack of efforts and financial backing. They've sucked up to Rockstar and anything that they released, that Kush and Visual Concepts just gets the kick in the nutts!

So because Peter Moore is there he'll spare The Show out of the kindness of his heart? Out of the spirit of competition? Gimme a break. The same guy that says that APF and Blitz the League are legitimate competition to Madden and NCAA? Like I said, it's you applying a standard to EA that you seemingly don't wish to apply to TT/2K, I guess because of your "disappointment" with them.

Yes, 2K is likely about to go by the wayside - and I laugh at those that welcome it because it's only yet another step in the direction of EA basically running all sports games. I know many don't care because they like sparkly graphics and hype - and would prefer to cross their fingers when it comes to gameplay. While I would want nothing bad for the people that work for 2K and their families, I welcome what's coming - because anyone that thinks the lack of competition means we'll get better games is simply fooling themselves. And in the end, the joke will be on them when they have no alternatives to turn to.

I make 50k a year and EA makes about a few billion. Them gaining the license or not, benefits me neither way.

They will do what they do, and I'll continue to enjoy whats released the best I can! No sense in whining about it, I give it a positive outlook because 80% of the rest of OS is negative. Regardless of what happens I'll still make 50k a year and they will make billions.

someone said it earlier, we just need more companies to have rights to produce a mlb baseball game. This is what got me excited each year, looking into the magazines and checking what other companies have to offer. I had a choice before, now luckily one game at least keeps me going, the show. but imagine if we could get 2k, the show, mvp, high heat? etc. talk about a choice. these companies have ruined it for all gamers by buying exclusive rights to nfl, ncaa, mlb. the nfl and mlb are to blame as well, but when money is the main goal, than who cares about our consumers.
