    Seldom used feature: Expansion teams

All-Star Baseball 2005 is the last game I remember to feature the ability to have an expansion team complete with draft.

I miss the Brooklyn Green Sox - when will a game implement that feature again?

I miss my Brooklyn Outlaws as well.
I don't think the title should be seldom USED feature, but rather
    ...seldom IMPLEMENTED feature.

      Don't pick my nit.

I think it should be a MANDATORY optional game mode.

Thats why OOTP is so cool.

If you dig the managment aspect and can handle not using a controller to decide the outcome of games then the expansion team part is one of my favourites. I started a fictional league template and after two seasons (16 original teams...I played as the commish)) I created 4 new expansion teams and took over as GM of the Dallas squad). Great great fun.

that's why high heat 2003 was the best. i recreated the whole 1914 season one time with accurate rosters and unis/graphics.

what i really like is being able to contract say 5 teams or so, then having a fantasy draft. that makes the talent pool that much better.

Um, none of those games had an expansion draft.

              OOTP does.

No, not really. There's no Expansion Team mode as a game feature.

You mean as in the AI creating an expansion team on it's own?

That's true. But, creating a team and running an expansion draft is now possible.

MLB Power Pros 2008 has this option.

I loved this type of feature too. I have actually been tempted to buy ASB 2005 for Xbox since it can play on the 360 because I loved trying to build up an expansion team.

It was great that they added a second team as well so you didn't have to replace a team, it was true expansion. I loved it.

Re: Seldom used feature: Expansion teams

Great discussion. I think the new 2K Baseball Management Sim missed a great opportunity to include this feature in their game. Expansion means you build the team as opposed to falling in on what someone else already put together (for good or bad). Isn't that the most exciting position to be in as GM?

For baseball, I've gone to OOTP specifically because it has an expansion team feature and haven't played console baseball regularly since 2005.

Right now, I would be happy with just a simple CAT feature in a console game and I could do a work around expansion draft. For some reason, baseball is the only console game without a CAT feature. If the Show had that or even the 2K series, I'd buy it sight unseen.

But it's a serious omission that you can't do it right from the start -- that's why we're adding this to Baseball Mogul this year.
I'm confused. You can start an expansion (and an accompanying draft) right off the bat in OOTP. We just did it two days ago (OOTP 9)...a completely new game. Just go to the manager options, then game options and league setup. You can then choose to reassign minor league affiliates as well.

Not sure about Mogul since I've never played....i'll take your word though.

EDIT: you have to make sure the "auto expansion" box is unchecked as well, I believe.
