Thinking of Trying ASB, But

I'm hesitant based on some of the things I've read. First, hitting is too darn hard. I'd like it for zone hitting. Is it true zone hits everything to certer field?

Ratio of flys to groundouts. Is this true on zone?

Difficulty getting walks and Ks. True?

The biggest thing with this game is that there is a learning curve that a lot of casual gamers can't get over. Chances are, when you first start to play, you're going to have trouble hitting the ball, and will strike out a lot. However, if you keep at it, you'll learn the nuances of the game, and it'll become a lot of fun.

I don't know about zone, but the fly/ground ball ratio is skewed towards fly balls with the classic cursor, but I can get over that.

If you're new to ASB, the hitting will have you in the corner of the room balled-up in the fetal position shivering uncontrollably. It can take a couple of weeks to get the hang of the timing and I guarantee for the first 3 days.....

         ----------YOU...WILL...HATE...THIS..GAME! ** ----------

After the initial shock and awe of the damn pitch speeds, you have two options young Paduan:

         1.(THE BLUE PILL)
Yell, cuss, quit, remove the disk from your system, take a nice sharp instrument and scrape satanic verses of damnation across the back of it, all the while muttering angrily about Acclaim and the bowels of Hell. Then march back to the HH / WSB / MVP boards and pile on the mile-long list of disgusted and defeated gamers who couldn't deal (don't blame the fact that you couldn't hit though, blame it on the....uhhh...fielding, yeah that's the ticket.. lousy fielding. )

        OR......

         2.( THE RED PILL)
Take a little BP, one pitch at a time. Start with the 4-seam. Set it for right down the middle. Then after you're comfortable set it to random location. Then move on to the 2-seam, then the slider etc.....If you feel yourself getting frustrated, turn it off for an hour then try again. The process takes time bro.

If you can make it through a couple of weeks, you'll find plenty of glitches and/or things you liked better in HH or WSB, but you'll also find A TON of stuff you like better in ASB.

        Patience is the key.....Choose wisely.

cpuld not agree more the b.p. is key i was playing with easy batting but you get way too many fly balls and not enough variety in the hits.

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But

It's taken me about half a season, but I'm finally starting to spray hits to all parts of the field. Using classic cursor. I'm now hitting low and away curves and changes and dumping them over the 2b or SS head, fighting off inside heaters on the hands and barely dumping them over the 2nd base bag, and hitting screaming ground balls that are getting through the gaps in the infield.

Ya I think the frustration level of ASB is right up htere with the frustration of Midinight Club 2 and splinter cell. But keep in mind. Both those are kickass games to.
