For those who have tried WSB and HH (Heel?), I'm interested in hearing why you like ASB better? From JROD's review, it seems there is no logic to the direction of the hits (outside low pitch can be pulled). Does this bother you?

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But
I own both ASB and WSB and this is my opinion. While it is hard as hell to hit in ASB, I feel more like I actually "hit" the ball in that game than in WSB.
I've seen a couple of outside pitches that get pulled but does that not happen in real life? There are a few major league hitters that pull everything. The thing about ASB is that if you connect on a real low and away offspeed pitch and dunk it into the opposite field, it actually FEELS like you worked for it and hit the ball. I don't feel that way in WSB. The bats move SO FAST thru the zone it is so easy to recover and hit a blazing fastball even if you swing late. I find that there are WAY too many balls that get popped straight up in WSB. Couple that with the "floaty" hits to the OF that never seem to drop and it just makes for a frustrating game, in my opinion.Comment

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But
ditto on the above.
ASB just feels more like real base ball to me. The biggest knock on ASB is the hitting and that is easy once you get the hang of it.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But
I gotta agree, and I have played all baseball games but WSB (I just refuse to play sega games). ASB is by far the most difficult to hit in, but when you begin to master it on the most difficult level, you feel like you really accomplished something. And by saying master, you still work your *** off to be a .300 hitter. In the bottom of the ninth when your team needs a hit to knock in that runner at 2nd, you don't feel like it's a done deal you're gonna knock him in....you have to focus, and work to hit hiim in, and when you do, the electricity and pressure come together to make it one of the best simulations I have ever witnessed.
I would give my word to anyone, ASB just has something that other games don't, it leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment win you win, and a hunger to do better win you lose.Comment

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But
jjoe there aren't any lefty righty ratings, but it is still realistic because young guys hit better against pitchers from the opposite side but it doesn't make as much of a difference for veterans. Example: My left handed rookie first baseman has a very small power zone vs. lefties, but the zone is much bigger agaisnt righties. But for a veteran, say, Sosa, he hits about the same vs. both sides. It sounds strange when everybody says the hitting is so hard in ASB. I have never been very good at video games, but I have an .330 average in my franchise with the Normal cursor in All-Star mode. I played a couple games with easy batting, but there was no challenge, so I used normal cursor on Rookie, and played that for a few days, but then I won a game 20-5 or something ridiculous like that, so I moved up to Veteran, still got like 15 runs, and I have been an All-Star ever since.Every once in a while I go through a slump, and I still can't hit a pitcher that throws above 95, but even in those games you just need a good strategy and you will get a chance eventually. You have to be ready for a fastball, and then slide things down from there. If you are looking for a curve and it isn't a curve, you have no chance.

What about the fact that there is no lefty righty ratings. Doesn't that take away from the strategy and realism? How about pinpoint pitching accuracy? Heel, can you address these?

no pin point pitching accuracy. turn off the pitching cursor helps. I don't throw allot of walks, but I do leave plenty of pitches hanging over the plate that get jacked. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Thinking of Trying ASB, But
Right on Heelfan....once you turn the pitch indicator off, and the vibration so it doesn't vibrate when you leave the strike zone, and factor in control ratings and fatigue....you don't have complete control.....but I have to be honest, MVP does have a great idea on pitching. All baseball games can learn something from MVP's pitching interface.Comment
