Anyone playing MLB 2004?
I recently tried the demo of MLB 2004 (PS2) and really dont think it deserves the really bad rap (and reviews) it's gotten. Anyone else playing or have tried this game? I would rank it 3rd after WSB and MVP. Definitely liked it better than ASB. Granted, it's not the deepest game out there, but on the field it plays pretty solidly and does some cool things that other bb games don't. I really like the catcher appearing to throw the ball back, along with the translucent umpire. And the guess pitch feature is very well implemented. The games dont seem very high scoring and HR's seem to come at the right level. Pitching is a bit simplistic, but it works. The hitting model is nice. My biggest gripes are that you can't "tune" the pitch speeds or elect not to see that "pitch preview". That would have helped a lot. The announcing is a bit sparse and the left analog doesn't respond quick enough, so you end up using the D-pad for everything...a little annoying that they could get that right. Stealing is perfect and the opposing AI pitcher mixes things up pretty well. And FINALLY....a game that lets you runs completely around the bases after a HR......very cool! All and all, a very solid playing game. I think if we didn't have WSB around, this game would get a lot more attention.Tags: None -
Re: Anyone playing MLB 2004?
i used to like playing it on psx...i bought it before i did asb and switched it to asb. i was a pretty okay game, but it didn't have the features like asb does. the graphics are good, and i like the different modes that they have, but my biggest gripe was the franchise mode had almost no FAs to sign. it still needs some work if to compete in the BB game market, but it still didn't diserve as bad a rating as it gotComment

I don't play it, but I've noticed that it's the only game out there with Barry Zito's correct windupComment

Re: Anyone playing MLB 2004?
you cant judge it by playing the demo in Best Buy. I felt the same way after I played it also in Best Buy, but then I rented it and tried it at home and it was much better. You can change all the options to be how you want them, etc. I think if anyone gave this game more than 1 hour they would think diferently of it.Comment
