If you want realism then allstar is the way to go. Batting takes a little getting used to,but after some practice it gets better. When I first started I was striking out 10-12 times a game, now its down to about 5-6.

                  Re: ASB: Buy or not?

Well I'll break it down like this:

+Deep franchise mode that defitnetley wont boring for months.
+Expansion franchise which to me is the icing on the cake. Plenty of stadiums to choose from, it adds 1 team to each legue, and gives you a great reason to participate in a draft.
+Details, details-you got some of the most realistic animations, realistic stadiums, realistic physics, player models IMO are the best out of all the baseball games this year, collision detection with the ball in any part of the stadium, pitchers warming up in bullpen, players in dugout, outfields are correct size to go along with outfielder speed, scoreboards that really work, cracked bats, batting stances are the best, cant think of any more.
++did I mention the insanely deep franchise.

-Baserunning AI, cpu runs the basepads kinda conservative
-hard learning curve hitting, but after a lil practice and the right settings, this issue will go away.
-batting modes suck, zone=you cant hit the ball to right or left field. Classic=you hit nothing but pop ups. Normal=to easy to direct the ball where you want it to go. So in other words, not a good variety of predetermined hits by a user controlled batter.
-Pitching-user controled pitching, its way too easy to throw stikes in this game, and you have to make a concience efford to throw a ball.

But besides those, this game is the most realistic feeling and looking baseball game this year. And I've owned them all. Oh yea, did I mention the franchise mode.

Buy, buy, buy. It's the best of the offerings this year by a good margin, IMO.
