An OOTP League Worth Checking Out

The VBL4 is a branch off the large tree that is the Virtual Baseball League. Currently the VBL3 (run on FPS), VBL4 (<ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> 6.5) and VFL (FPS Football) are all active.

While we recognize the desire for <ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> 10 leagues, we prefer maintaining a rich league history.

The VBL4 began in 1980 (2005) and we are in the early stages of the off-season for the 1991 season.

I'm not the Commissioner (I am for VBL3), I'm just helping him out with promotion here but here are a few reasons why the VBL4 is for you if you enjoyed 6.5

    A) Commish doesn't own a team.
---- This is the basic foundation of every VBL franchise. Our Commissioner in VBL4 has never, and will never be an owner of a franchise in his own league. He is able to remain impartial. This is something that I've found to be very rare in the <ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> or FPS world. Never will you wonder why the Commish's team is in 1st place, or why he seems to have a leg up on free agency or anything like that. I'm sure in most cases Commissioner's are fair, but there's always that doubt in other leagues. Not here.

    B) Created teams
---- I'm not sure what it is about <ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> leagues that make Commish's force owners to keep MLB names and cities. This is a fun league, and it's meant to allow you to transform the team into your own mold. Not Brian Cashman's. My team is the Coronado Brown Boobies (actual bird in Coronado, CA) See how fun that is?

    C) Active ownership
---- We have last 10 seasons in the VBL4, and we haven't slowed down. The owners are very competitive, in fact in some cases there are some serious rivalries brewing. We don't have down-times in terms of owner participation. If you're looking for active trading, strong competitive league, and consistent press releases then this is a good place to look. Oh, and we have a championship trophy.

    D) League History
---- So many leagues out there decided to start over when <ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> 9 and 10 arrived. While we respect 9 and 10, the only way we'd ever convert is if it didn't effect the historical nature of our league. This isn't a game like Madden where we feel every year you just start over. You're here to build a championship and maintain your spot at the top of the mountain, not to start your franchise/progress over once a new <ACRONYM title="Out of the Park Baseball">OOTP</ACRONYM> comes out.

If you're interested you can visit www.virtualbaseball.org/vbl4 and shoot the Commish an e-mail at [email protected]

I imagine any open spots will be a first come first serve basis, but if you're on the Waiting List, you will receive constant updates as to your status and will not be forgotten!

    Thanks for reading.

Re: An OOTP League Worth Checking Out

Some people have e-mailed me about the league, but I had a major e-mail meltdown (Thanks, Mozilla Thunderbird) and lost a lot of e-mails. At any rate, if you are interested in the league please e-mail me again. Since I have less than 5 posts I can't post an e-mail addy or website URL, but they can be found in the message above.

    Thanks,
    Brandon Simpson
    VBL4 Commissioner
