What are the terms of 2KSport's Exclusivity?

The license agreement has been etched in our brains for the last several years:

The only publishers outside of 2K that can release an MLB-branded game are hardware manufacturers.

i.e. Sony developing and publishing "The Show".

But can we question this? With news that EA Sports is announcing a new Sports franchise in January '10, I'm trying to come up with a scenario that allows 360 owners to have hope.

What if the license agreement is more along these lines:

No publisher can release a multi-platform MLB game outside of 2KSports.

Is it possible EA can release an MLB game on the 360, and the 360 only?

It's my pipe dream.

The licensing is for third party publishing/development, regardless what it is released on one or all systems.

MSFT would have to make a baseball game themselves.

Darn. Microsoft owns the High Heat franchise. I suppose Microsoft bought it before they had any plans to shutdown XSN Sports.

It could not BE any more frustrating to be a 360 gamer.

It's too bad EA couldn't develop a baseball game, and Microsoft publish it. I really want that EAsports news in January to be about baseball. SomeHOW!

There's really no guarantee that MVP would've carried over from what it was last gen, if EA's other sports titles are an indication. Every last one struggled w/the transition - Madden, NCAA, FIFA, NHL, Tiger, etc. Granted, 5yrs in some are doing very well like FIFA and NHL from what I read. Others, not so much - but they're improving. Either way I think given how their games translated to next gen, there's no guarantee MVP would be what it was last gen right off the bat, and would need at least a few years to get it's footing
