Re: Pro Yakyu Spirits 2010 pre-release thread

The best way to get the most out of the game would be to have a manual in English. A translation posted online would be great, as well. Just as American games are made for and limited to America, this is a Japanese game. The language barrier keeps us from getting everything out of the game. Sports games have so many modes in general, that a lot of the modes are not even played. Some people don't go online. Some people don't create a player. Some don't try a dynasty mode. You can still enjoy a game without trying every mode. PYS is worth playing, even if you are limited due to the language barrier. Because PYS, as a Japanese import, figures to be more expensive, $$$ has to enter into the decision.

Same here... I enjoy it for playing the game of baseball. The language barrier doesn't really effect the actual playing of a game. What killed me was not being able to get into a season mode to deep because I had no idea about everything going on.

I still enjoy popping it in every now and then to play a game vs CPU or another user.

It really depends on how interested you are in Japanese baseball and baseball in general. It's almost assured that you will get stuck in the longer modes, as situations arise that require lengthy translation.

It also depends on how good the game is and what type of game you are looking for. I had five (the year before last) and thought it was good, but it had some pretty big flaws when it came to being a true baseball simulation. It also had these reoccurring (albeit brief) black loading screens that made the game feel like it was not yet a finished product.

It's been two years and hopefully they have made significant strides, though I wouldn't count on any translation, so you're likely looking at single games of at least solid Japanese baseball. Because obviously we will have to wait and see just how significant the strides have been.

I am interested because when I was in Japan in 2000 I was fortunate enough to catch a Hiroshima Carp game so I wanna check them out, I forgot who they played but I was allowed to video tape the game

Re: Pro Yakyu Spirits 2010 pre-release thread

I actually played season mode in 5 and 6 and the language barrier is not as bad as you may think. In fact you'll figure a lot of it out as you go if you are willing to invest some time. Here are some of the things I did to help myself:

First, get koshi's translation guide for 5 and a lot of it carries over to 6. I am sure a lot will also carry over to 2010. If nothing else, you'll begin to start recognizing the features simply by going to them enough. Maybe since he still posts here, you can PM if you can't find it with a search.

Then use wikipedia to look up the Nippon Professional Baseball league (NPB) and you'll learn about the teams by clicking on them. Also note the kanji or kana for the team names and you'll be able to decipher standings, scoreboards, and schedules using that script or the logos of the teams depending on the situation.

Then, go to japanesebaseball.com and look at rosters. There you will see their name listed in roman characters and in Kanji. Print it out for the team you want to play with as it has numbers also. Now you will begin to hear their names from the announcers and soon you'll recognize the kanji that make up their name. And, you'll also start to hear some familiar phrases...see if you can hear a japanese version of "three out change", pitcher, and homerun.

Then google Japanese baseball and soon you'll find pages with common baseball phrases you'll hear in the game and you'll understand more. ichirui (1st base), san rui (3rd base), etc.

Finally, go to the English version of the NPB homepage and look at the stats in English. Then go to the Japanese version and match the kanji with the english statistic based upon the numbers in the column. Now you can translate the stat pages on the game.

Finally, print off a katakana and hirigana chart and you will be able to read even more words.

Yes, understanding some pop-ups about injuries or team history will still be impossible to understand and you won't get the full experience of other modes but with this little bit of work, you'll be able to do pennant mode just fine.

I know it sounds like a lot but with just a couple of hours of your time, you will enjoy a great baseball game and you'll learn a bit of Japanese as well.

They may be barbaric when it comes to treating their aquatic life, well any mammal in general, but ******* the Japanese can make a great baseball game. Is that a picture of Johjima for the Marines?

The site has a small update, one that doesn't really show all that much: two videos (neither of which show any gameplay) and three pics (one for each platform).

                  The PS3 pic:

Well, the PS3 shot shows they fixed Matsumoto's batting stance. He does that weird Kevin Youkilis thing as you can see. So, being a big Kyojin fan, I'm glad to see that change.

why these folks don't give the option of English is beyond me. But, that might actually be a hard undertaking and take resizing overlays, etc.

On why they don't make an English version, I think the answer can be found in this four part series. This is part one; click on the author's name and you can find parts 2-4. Read them all. Will take about 10-15 minutes but will explain a lot about Japanese baseball, the politics of the league, and, by extension, a lot about Pro Yakyuu Spirits.

If they had an option to change the text in the game to english throughout the whole thing, this would be an instant purchase. I just don't think I can justify the $60 for a game I won't understand a single thing I'm "reading". The Japanese commentary doesn't bother me one bit.. I just wish they would go through and add an "english text" option.

I've looked at the game for about the past three (3) years, every year hoping they would add it in because the game itself looks AMAZING
