    My Own Baseball Game [Idea]

This will be a long read, but this is basically my fantasy baseball game I wish would be made... But likely wont ever come close to reality. Oh well.

Note, I use the metric system for measurements implemented in this, "game". If you need help converting, use an online converter (I'd post it myself but I don't have 5 posts.)

In this game you'd be able to create a whole new league where you can set the following guidelines for that league.

    1. Amount of conferences/leagues (minimum would be 1 and a maximum of 8)

    2. Amount of divisions within league (minimum would be 2 and a maximum of 16)

    3. Country/s the league is in from (every country available)

    4. Cities the teams are from (use of Google Earth here would be best)

    5. Induce a salary cap or salary minimum if desired and also have the option to introduce it or remove it at anytime before the next season.

    6. Players allowed on team (minimum being 12 and a maximum of 40)

    7. Player salary cap is optional

Rules and guidelines are editable including,

    1. Number of outs required to end an inning with a minimum of 2 and a maximum being 4.

    2. Number of strikes required to strike a batter out with a minimum being 2 and a maximum being 4.

    3. Number of balls required to walk a batter with a minimum being 2 and a maximum being 5.

    4. Choose if base stealing is allowed

    5. Choose if balks are allowed or are enforced

    6. Choose if pickoffs are allowed

    7. Choose if instant replay reviews are allowable with either it being an automatic review upstairs (automatic/after every play if needed), by the manager (with adjustable amounts of challenges from 1 to infinite with penalties if wrong), and it is also adjustable for certain plays regarding either homeruns, base calls, catches, and even final results of an at-bat (if desired).

    8. Choose if a player gets replaced in a game if that player can then come back into the game with either a set amount of times ranging from 1-infinite.

Stadium regulations will also be adjustable.

    1. The distance between home plate to first, first to second, second to third, and third to home can vary in the range of a minimum length of 26.5 meters or a maximum length of 28 meters.

    2. The distance between home plate and the pitchers mound can vary within the range of a minimum of 16.5 meters to a maximum of 18.5 meters.

    3. The dimensions of home plate are variable with a minimum width of 0.42 meters to a maximum of 0.5 meters. The length of the plate must be the same as the width.

    4. The dimensions of the pitchers step is 0.5 meters wide and 0.1 meters in length while being raised 0.01 meters off the ground.

5a. The pitchers mound must be 2.8 meters in radius and rise on a slope to a height of 0.25 meters.

5b. The pitchers mound must be made of dirt.

6a. The right field wall and left have a variable range of a minimum distance of 90 meters to a maximum of 120. The center field wall however has a minimum distance of 115 meters with a maximum of 130 meters.

6b. The height of the outfield walls are variable with a minimum height of 1.3 meters to a maximum height of 14 meters.

When creating a team, the name can be chosen from a database of sounds. The city, state, region, etc will already be in the system (or will be provided online). However if that is not available for whatever reason, you can opt to have it read out from a text to speech program in which you can tweak the sound of the text you put in so that it is correct (if it didn’t originally pronounce It correctly). The same can be applied to players names.

The uniforms will be deeply customizable ranging from shorts, pants, basketball styled jerseys, baseball jerseys, hats, no hats. And the color/stitch pattern will be also up to you.

Individual players will get to choose from the normal array of whats already out there. But as for character creation, I’d like for the option of people looking a bit silly. Go a bit extreme. I’d like to see a minimum height of 1. 4 meters with a maximum being 2.5 meters with weights ranging from 40kg to 300kg. Body physique should be available from a gelatinous blob to Barry Bonds on steroids… x2.

Hair color should be available on preset realistic colors and a color wheel for well, stupid colors. Facial features like eyes, nose, ears, should be able to be so small that they are practically gone to being practically the size of the players head, which would also be editable.

Baseball size, weight, and bounciness will be editable as well.

Bat size, weight, and material will be editable.
I got more stuff, but I am starting to draw blanks, plus I do have some more. But they are very minor and I feel that this is long enough. If you made it this far, really, thanks for reading.

Not to shoot you down, but that would be a huge undertaking for a developer.

Something as slight as the variations that can occur by simply raising or lowering the mound could result in lines of code that would build a game within a game.

I like the idea and I think there should be a text-sim out there that lets you run wild with whatever you dream. I'm just not sure anyone would want to.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

sounds cool, but that much customization would be almost impossible to make

I am assuming you are talking about the stadium customization features. They would not be impossible (or difficult). It just would require a very in depth Stadium Creation mode where it has limits (within the guidelines I provided).

I actually already have an example model saved in Google Sketchup where it indicates the maximum/minimum of the customizable elements. Think of it as a template. If a small Sketchup file can handle it, a game can.

And note I said dream game. I know it is likely never to happen and no developer/publisher would see this as worth their time.

And yes, I wouldn't want this to be anything but a playable Baseball video game.

Maybe whenever I learn how to make games I'll make it... Wish me luck. : P

As for a computer game this could be possible if not already done but for a Xbox 360/PS3 game its impossible.
                MLB: Texas Rangers

Not bad, that's A LOT for one game but I like the idea. Very ambitious.

Why would you put in an option for 2 outs to end an inning? Why an option for 2 balls = walk? Thats not baseball. This seems like one of those great ideas you have when youre really drunk or high, but in reality it's a very bad idea. Reminds me of the 'jump to conclusions mat' from Office Space - Thats the worst idea i've ever heard..yes, this is a terrible idea.
Well seeing that you are banned it's useless to answer. But for those who are curious, I'll answer anyway.

AS for the name, umm, no idea honestly. But it's not like this is a serious
ambition and or goal. It's just a game I'd like to see/or create. But if it does ever get made by me, I'll figure out a name when I get to that point obviously. But I'm not there yet.

And what? It'd still be baseball. A guy pitches the ball, a guy hits it, hope it lands. The only thing the game offers is the ability to change the rules already in place and as I said before the DEFAULT of MLB's rules would be in place.

As for why I'd have the option for 2 outs to end an inning? Why not? It's just a fantasy game and once again it's OPTIONAL. Same applies for the walks.

And seeing that you are banned, I'm going to assume what you did wasn't such a good idea...

And while I was gone, I thought of other aspects. I'll try to be quick and simple.

When creating a new league, you can either decide to be the owner of all the teams or even none. All the teams you don't own/control will have randomly created owners in place along with GM's and Scouts. The owner will have a certain attributes that make them all different. Aggressive owners, reluctant owners, etc. And this will setup who the owner hires as the GM as well as scouts (meaning he will be more likely to hire scouts and GM's that have a similar ideology that he does). And within that they will have a randomly generated amount of cash available and or a preset (if you choose to allow it).
I have even more ideas but I think this is enough already. lol

Re: My Own Baseball Game [Idea]

This may be quite a big bump, but I have good reason for doing so. I'm attempting to get this project started. I admit that I need help however. The first thing to get started would be the skill/attribute system. The problem? I am terrible at spreadsheets and math in general. I do have some stuff sorted out though.

But first, let me explain the system. The ratings will be 0-1000 for all skills. 0 being 'record breaker... in a bad way' and 1000 being 'record breaker... in a good way!'. Which means 500 would be 'average' (but not exactly league average mind you).

Think of it as the 20-80 scouting system. Most players will stay in this range and players going any further than that get extremely extremely rare. And as for created characters (without cheating and or very exceptional training worthy of those points), unless you spend all your training points in any specific area, you are unlikely to ever reach 900 at anything, yet alone 1000.

                        Example time:

                        Average 4 Seam Fastball Velocity

                        Rating 0 = 120kmh / 75mph
                        Rating: 250 = 133kmh / 82.5mph
                        Rating: 500 = 145kmh / 90mph
                        Rating: 750 = 157kmh / 97.5
                        Rating: 1000 = 170kmh / 105mph

Mind you, this 'average' is only possible if your '4 Seam Fastball Velocity' 'consistency rating' is high. Consider the consistency as a modifier to the range of velocity's your pitcher will have and will likely average out at. A pitcher with low consistency would of course have an average velocity that is lower even though their top speed can be say around 105mph or more. Now, I haven't thought about what a good number for this would be. This would need some research.

For a thought experiment though, let's consider pitch break.

                        Max Slider Break

                        Rating 0 = 5cm / 2 inches
                        Rating: 250 = 15cm / 6 inches
                        Rating: 500 = 25cm / 10 inches
                        Rating: 750 = 35cm / 14 inches
                        Rating: 1000 = 46cm / 18 inches

Note like before, this is only in ideal conditions (depending on break consistency).

The Slider Break Consistency could work as follows

                        Rating 0 = 0%
                        Rating: 250 = 12.5%
                        Rating: 500 = 25%
                        Rating: 750 = 37.5%
                        Rating: 1000 = 50%

So what this means is that, say a pitcher with a 1000 break consistency rating and a 1000 max break throws a horrible slider, at the least, the slider will still break 50% as it's maximum break (which in this case would be 11 inches).

The last thing I want to talk for now is possible interface designs. To me, this is extremely important in sports games and most games do it poorly. Sports games can be daunting for newcomers. I want to make it easier for both newcomers and hardcore/diehards alike. So for example, when creating a player, when you add points to 'contact rate out of zone against RHP', you will see your players expected batting average (in a neutral environment) as well as expected amount of walks, OBP, etc. The stats will be updated in real time and it will tell you how all the stats correlate to each other and by how much they impact each other. I feel it will be a good educational tool.

So that's that. If anyone has questions, suggestions, and or would like to lend a hand, you are welcome and invited to do so. Thanks for reading.
