    PS2 Game Help

Hey guys I'm thinking of downgrading from a PS3 to a PS2 again. Its nothing to do with Sony, I love my PS3 but money is tight and i need some extra cash, along with knowing if I got a PS2 the most Id have to pay for a game is maybe 10-15 bucks compared to a 40-60 for a new game.

I guess my question is about sports games because I plan on getting a few and I want to know which you guys would recommend. I'm a franchise guy at heart and I love the ability to play as all 32 teams on Madden. So first I'm wondering if theres any NBA either EA or 2K PS2 games that have that ability and also I'd prob be looking for a Baseball game as well with that ability. I'm not sure if they do though since MLB The Show getting all-team control was a pretty big thing last year. Also if none of the PS2 games have those features which sports games would you recommend which had a good franchise mode.

Thanks everyone for any help you can provide.

    Re: PS2 Game Help

    Hey, excef2005!
I can't comment on basketball, but I'll give you a few comments on baseball. I still have a PS2 and never had a PS3 and I'm pretty happy. I did get a PSP and am loving The Show 09, but that's off the track.
For PS2 baseball, there are a few good ones out there. My favorite PS2 baseball game was High Heat 2004. You CAN control all teams in a franchise. You can take control and relinquish control at any time. There is still The Show for PS2 which only allows for one team control in franchise, but you can still do all the roster control for all the other teams as well. Sega's 2K only allows you to control 4 teams (I believe) in a franchise and updating rosters manually is difficult.
As far as gameplay goes, HH is still the king to me, but The Show is amazing also. PS2 games are pretty cheap - you could probably get quite a few games for 30-50 dollars.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Not a bad choice because you can get some great games for less than $3.00. The PS2 was not made for HDTV's so hopefully you have an old CRT laying around? If not almost every garage sale I go to has one for sale on the cheap.

One big thing to consider with Madden PS2: You can create your own custom plays & playboooks AND use them in your franchise - but only with versions 2004 & 2005. In later versions you could do this but it didn't work in 'chise. For more on this...

One thing about a PS2 and hdtv's is i did notice quite an improvement when using PS2 component cable connection over s-video. I believe that will get you 480P.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. I don't have an HD TV (If I can't afford gaming I certainly can't afford a big TV) so I guess that's turned into a good thing now. I'll check out High Heat Baseball, it sounds familiar but I don't remember it. I do remember The Show on the PS2. I believe it was just called MLB 2005 instead of MLB The Show. Is High Heat a regular sim type game or is it like a NFL Blitz version?

I'll let you guys know how I make out if I do decide to go through with it. Thinking about putting it on Craigslist first to avoid fees but if I can't find a bidder I'll just sell it on Ebay.

            xcel,
You are talking to the ambassador for High Heat! It's very sim. Pretty much the most sim baseball game until The Show. I still play it from time to time. 2004 has all the levels - big leagues, AAA, AA, A level ball. you can only play the majors, but you can monitor your farm system and promote guys. You can set an exact number of games for your season. It has batting practice, which really helps. The CPU opponent is smart and makes good baseball decisions. The sliders work really good. You just can't go wrong with HH. The rosters are way out of date, but all players are editable and roster management is cumbersome, but can be done in a few hours. I started from scratch in 2008 and it took about 8 hours to get it fairly close to the real rosters of that time. It's ugly looking, but not so ugly that you can't play it. But it is a really solid game and if you can pick it up for about 2 bucks, which is probably close to what Gamestop would charge, it's two dollars well spent.
Do a search in this forum for the High Heat thread - there is a ton of info and I had alot of posts detailing my season. You may find it interesting.

Wow thanks for all the information, after listening to you I must just pick it up to see what I think. Amazon has it for 4 bucks which isn't a bad to try it.
