Re: New PS3 Owner - Show or 2k

To whoever stated that they still MVP 05, I do to and am in year 3 (playing every single game) since like 08. Still fun occassionally.

Anyways, I always buy 2 copies of the show (and usually give one away) because the devs have done such an exceptional job in listening to their customers that it is ridiculous. I mean, if companies approached their business like these guys do, going to McDonalds would be a memorable experience. These guys take their passion to another level and there is no way I cannot support them. As a guy who is going to the military, there is a good possibility I won't play future iterations too much, but I will still purchase just because I want to keep these guys in business and help in any way I can.

2K dropped it this year IMO. I cannot fathom the reasoning behind not offering the combo-pack to ps3 users. I'm sure they would have swayed a small percentage of them to purchase their product instead. Since they have the 360 market all to themselves, stealing a few ps3 players wouldn't have been such a bad idea.

Even if PYS had an English option it still wouldn't match the popularity of the MLB game. Would it get more support and probably more purchases, absolutely. I just don't see it matching MLB game sales at all or even coming close. I've been wrong before though so who knows...

I used to get it just because it have the player career mode and cursor (with bat shape) hitting.
Once the Show got it that made PYS not worth the purchase for me ESPECIALLY due to the language barrier. Even when I did get it, The Show or 2K got the most play time.

PYS is a decentt game though....and I wish it would be released in English one day.
I've been playing since OOTP3, I don't need lesson in the game. It's completely customizable, including the version on my iPhone. The point though, is it has a steep learning curve and has a hard cord following. A completely made up baseball league can be just as engrossing as MLB or the NPB.

Now, in all seriousness, do you think Konami wouldn't obtain an MLB license if they decided to make PYS English?

Therefore, the language/culture barrier hinders the majority of people from enjoying the little things in the game. It's just too unfamiliar for most people to enjoy.
Google is a wonderful thing. Some of the cultural items are easily obtained via google: eg Col Sanders with the Hanshin Tigers = Curse of Bambino or Billy Goat Cubs. I think it adds a little bit to the game, not unlike some of the commentary blips regarding baseball lore add to the show. I think you would find a lot of the little things included in PYS can easily be related to things over here.

Never said you needed a lesson in the game. Just giving my opinion on the comparison. I'd venture to guess 75% or more OOTP users edit thier leagues with MLB players and teams.
Just a difference in opinion on the issue. We'll agree to disagree.

I would hope Konami would try to get a license. Even if they didn't, if they would release PYS in English I'd buy it.
I love all baseball but the language barrier is a huge issue. I don't even know a ton about Japanese baseball but I would still get right into it if English was available.
Guess my point is if they truly want to get their brand of baseball to the masses they would release an English version. IMO I think they know they wouldn't get a big enough market share to justify the resources to do it. I think they would in fact go the MLB route only for the US if they could obtain a license.

Just using my experience, I always got into it more with a customized, non MLB league. With MLB players in OOTP, I always seem to use my opinions of players from real life dictate what I tend to do. In contrast a fictional league always seemed to hold my attention longer. The wonderful OOTP crowd also adds a tremendous amount in terms of logos, etc. that I have no talent in creating. What a wonderful game Markus has developed. I still remember seeing Season Ticket Baseball in an egghead store and thinking, this looks awesome. It was. They've gotten my money every year since.

                Back on T

As far as The Show and 2K goes I'd take the Show without question. I just hope soon (this year??) 2K get's some detail down better and really makes an improvement.

LOL, not sure if you are speaking to me, or in general, but I know these things and more about Japan and NPB. I was speaking in a general sense as to why most Americans have a hard time receiving the game.

                  Edit: Sorry Mo.

Talk about making reaches to try to prove a point. It's almost like Pys fans are working on commission. Ridiculous.

The Show is the way to go without a shadow of a doubt. Trust me, you will NOT regret it.
