I think PYS is "sim" in the sense of simulating what it's like to be a hitter / pitcher in a real baseball game better than any game. (not in the statistical sense necessarily, though it does produce very realistic stats as well)

But Yeah putting it up to Hard- is a definite adjustment. I am a seasoned PYS gamer, and I play on Custom difficulty, Hard- CPU pitching and Normal+ CPU batting. Normal+ CPU batting still provides me a challenge considering how hard it is to get runs on them. Though I think I remembered an old tip about pitching that I'm putting to use that has greatly improved my pitching so I might be able to turn that up higher. But I want to get a few wins under my belt before I do that, especially with PYS 14 right around the corner.

One great thing about hard- is the pitch spread. I read back through this thread and saw a good few posts on it and all that was said is definately true, pitch spread MASSIVELY improves the moment you go to hard-. In the couple of months i play the game on normal+, i saw officially 0 walks. Zilch. Nada. Last night on hard- i had two in one game.
Yes the spread is detailed very well at spirits transation website. I play on Hard- for that reason, to get simulation, realistic, lifelike spreads from the CPU pitchers. As far as walks, I've been playing on Hard- CPU pitching since I got PYS and I am very happy with the way it plays on that. I draw walks sometimes too and it is very organic as far as when the CPU throws balls and the location of those pitches. I think the unpredictability is perfect on Hard- CPU pitching, then again I haven't really tried any of the others in PYS2013.

      THIS.

Sim you are dead on. You say it's not "sim" statistically but IT IS! Here's the thing in PYS, if you make good contact with the ball and put the ball in play you will hit for a good average and vice versa if not. Even if a player's digital representation says he's a crappy hitter you can make him a better hitter by utilizing his strengths i.e. attributes and skills(still unique to PYS), and just concentrating while playing the game. Whereas "other games" go... "Well its your 10th at-bat with this player and he's a .300 hitter so its time for you to get your 3rd hit regardless of actual physics..."

It really is uncanny just how good a game of baseball PYS plays. Was going to save myself some money and just stick to 13 but i think i might have to bite and get 14. I'll wait for some of you guys to whack some impressions up.

And you raise a good point actually. The computer always hit well on me, it's just that i always hit better on them on normal+. Not sure why i didn't just up CPU pitching to hard- and leave hitting on normal+. Think i'll do that when i next play.

Okay guys. I have PYS 12 for the Vita and I love it. Best baseball game I have ever played.

My question, is 13 a noticeable upgrade or just a roster update?

I've never played the Vita version but am pretty sure it compares well to the ps3, anyways here is a link to the 2013 pys impressions thread over at Spirtstranslations you might find some of what your looking for there.

PYS 2013 is a pretty significant upgrade over 2012. A lot of longtime PYS fans actually felt that 2012 was one of the worst entries in the series, in terms of gameplay. I won't go into it here, but if you search through this thread and some others on here, you can suss out why.

The biggest improvement in 2013 is in the pitching. In previous versions, including 2012, it was always far too easy to paint the corners with your pitches, because even if your release timing was off, your pitches would still go pretty much where you aimed them. That completely changed in 2013, and it makes pitching more challenging and fun, and also means that CPU pitchers are less frustrating to face. Which brings me to the other change in 2013, which is that batting is less frustrating. It's still just as challenging, but it's a lot more fair in 2013.

That being said, 2014 has improved things even more, so if you're still having fun with 2012, maybe wait until next year when you'll be able to get 2014 for a better price. Of course, by then we'll probably be getting 2015 for the PS4, so...

Yeah, I just read through the 2014 impressions thread and now I don't know what to do. Thanks for the response though, the ease of painting corners is one of the most frustrating aspects of 12 to me.
