I'm a HH refugee trying to decide which way to go with the new games coming out this year. In an effort to at least get the "feel" for the new games coming out I am renting last years versions to see what works/ doesn't for me. One of the big selling points of ASB for me is the Manage Only mode - I like to play with that mode sometimes. I rented ASB 04 and have played a few games and have found some things and wanted to know if they are typical of this mode or a result of something I am doing wrong:
1. I seem to be having a difficult time scoring runs - in 6 or 7 games I have only broken 2 runs 1 time and I have not had a player hit a homerun yet. I am power-swinging when I have a good count (2-0, 2-1, 3-1) and a hitter with power at the plate. I have been playing with the generated counts, so maybe that has some sort of impact - I'm going to try a few w/o that and see if it levels things out.
2. I am getting abnormal SO and BB totals - I just finished a game where my pitchers surrendered 18 walks and recorded 14 strikeouts. I played a game yesterday in the old Astrodome and lost 1-0 in 18 innings, 50 strikeouts were recorded by the 2 pitching staffs. This may be something to do with the generated count mode, but I was wondering if anyone had any similar expereince in manage only mode.
3. The baserunners seem to be really slow - I have noticed a few times where guys aren't scoring from 2nd on base hits to the outfield and every time I try to steal a base (even with a fast guy) I wind up getting thrown out by about 15 feet. Is there something I can do to wave runners home or get a better jump on SB's.
In the MO mode I'm essentially looking for something that will provide realistic stats over the course of a season. Just wanted to see if anyone was able to get that w/ MO in ASB 04.
