    Re: ASB Screens 1/22/04

I agree with you cub but the problem I see is that the faces look like they were taken from a photo and just planted onto the head. At least to me. Don't get me wrong they're the best faces around but it's not integrated in the best way.

As for the graphics, I agree to a certain extent some parts of the game just look beautiful. I personally think ASB has the best stadiums out of all the games around.

a little off the topic but are the Tigers gonna be wearing those horrid tops this season? It looks like a spring training jersey!

But the colors are right. Everything's photorealistic. The look is.... real.

With the other games, everything's a generic polygon with inaccurate colors and no details. I mean, the other games don't even TRY to get it right. They just sort of get in the general area of authenticity, then add tons of flash. ASB is exhaustive in its attempts to recreate the look of an actual game.

I just don't understand it when shots like this of ASB are released and no one says a word. Then the latest cartoony, generic-looking players from MVP or ESPN are shown and everyone's like "That looks eerily real!"

                  Hahaha...

I've actually heard the opposite (and agree) that ESPN has a cartoony look. Look at the latest screenshots (especially that of Curt Schilling)! The skintones, faces and player build are very inaccurate. MVP's look much more realistic (especially in the animation department) and I wouldn't say it's "cartoony" but it's still not as good as ASB's faces and player models.

I also disagree with the latest OXM preview because the author states that ASB's graphics took a step backwards as it looks more PS2-ish. In my opinion, the graphics look alot better than last year's so I don't know what that author's smoking. As a matter of a fact, that author was probably biased against ASB from the start as he basically had nothing good to say about it.

I mean... it almost looks like a photograph. And both MVP and ESPN look like cartoons by comparison.

I agree that SEGA's are cartoony to an EXTENT... and the only reason is because the saturation they have in color.

But I just LOVE the detail and realism they have in it otherwise:
