    Re: NCAA Baseball

    Re: NCAA Baseball

I love NCAA baseball too, ROLL TIDE, but outside of the SEC, ACC, Big 12, PAC 10 conference regions, i.e. up north, there's not that many fans. I'd say only the southeast, midwest, and west coast baseball fans enjoy college enough to buy the game. I doubt there will be an NCAA baseball game for at least 7-8 years

A college baseball game would be awesome I think. Seems to be some interest. Check out this site trying to get a college game going.

It could be problematic in that many of the players in MLB didnt go to college. I dont know how difficult it would be to merge an imported pool of players with a CPU generated pool of players but it could be problematic.

I havent played NBA Live with imported draft classes but they must include HS kids dont they? If they do they could include HS and foreign with NCAA Baseball and MVP. Any ways here is some interesting numbers I have found

            From Baseball America-

Of 1,218 Major Leaguers in 2002
            4yr College - 507- 53.9%
            High School - 285- 30.3%
            Foreign school- 299- 24.5%
            2yr College - 148- 15.8%

That percentage for 4 year schools is larger in 2003 and 2004 I can guarantee. About 45% of the MLB All-Stars in 2003 attended college at a 4 yr school.

A guy on another board I go to with ties to EA said they were currently "considering" making an NCAA Baseball title. That was 4-5 months ago, so who knows if it'll ever happen. I doubt it.

                        Re: NCAA Baseball

I love college baseball. I went to almost every Arizona Wildcats game while I was at school at the UofA. Even though I love the game I wouldn't buy a college baseball game and I think that most of America would agree. The sport is nowhere near college basketball or college football in terms of popularity and following. The game wouldn't sell. Many schools across America don't play college baseball because it starts in winter/early spring when there is still snow on the ground. I also agree with the guy who said most people don't know the players on their alma mater's team let alone teams from across the USA. I live in Las Vegas and I am a baseball fanatic (MLB, Minors, everything) but the only player on UNLV's squad that I know of is Fernando Valenzuela's son, and he might have graduated last year... can't remember. The point is, the game wouldn't sell enough to make any profit for the manufacturer.

PS - Got to meet Fernando at the SDSU - UNLV game last year... quite a nice guy. Also at that game I got to see Anthony Gwynn, Jr. play and his daddy coach... it was a blast.

Maybe at some point in the future the college game will get built into a MLB game.
