Other games either have more flash, better marketing, or have more "simcade" elements. I think ASB is too realistic for the masses. I do think that it could use some more flashy animations and better fielder responsiveness. I think that also more signature celebrations for batters would help a lot to brighten up the gameplay. I know that ASB, based on last year's game, had the most realistic results. THe HRs were toned down from previous years, the franchise mode was vastly improved, create-a-player was improved, basically the main complaints were addressed with the exception of crouching. This year they've done some things to eliminate it, wen the game comes out we'll have to c how much has changed. I'm thrilled about the videos I've seen on Acclaim's site and love the upgraded graphics. ASB keeps improving but I guess EA Sports' marketing and overall fanbase is too overwhelming for Acclaim.

I don't think they out and out HATE the game. The problem is this:

reviewers/sites like flashy games with great animations and quick and fun gameplay. They tend to put more emphasis on the graphics and "fun factor" rather than going beyond the pretty colours on the screen. Sports Simulations sadly are even more niche then the sports game genre. (in comparison to the rest of the videogame industry)

ASB is like a serious relationship, if you wanna get anything out of it, you have to put something into it. Once you put in your time, it hits you that this could be real love. I admit, I rented it last year and hated it. Plus I couldn't hit the damn ball, it was too fassssssst.

However I re-rented it months later and really tried to learn. Then in one day it all came together. I love it. I have no problem with the cursor, but that's me. I gotta say that I got WAY better stats outta it than MVP.

Some of the other games are like a fling. Instant gratification, but after a few weeks you start to look for the EXIT.

Comparing ASB to MVP isn't all that fair in some respect. MVP was just too new to get a good shake. MVP was a lot of fun but had too many big flaws like pitchers being taken out early and CPU not swinging at balls.

However ASB was all roses either. There were some AI flaws as well. I know I saw a lot of problem where the graphical engine got snarled with the gameplay and it hurt.

Anyway ASB is a solid title no doubt, but the batting/pitching model needed some renovation. I has an expansion team batting .325 as the whole late into my season last year. I didn't think that was too realistic. I mastered the cursor and feel I wasn't playing baseball as much as whack a mole. In my opinion I feel the cursor takes away from baseball startegy and puts in more into video game prowess. If you have good I hand coordination you could do better regardless of the person you had to bat. And the pitching model could be better.

I think that while it my take time to learn ASB it didn't have any serious flaws but the minors ones added up. That was last year and has no relevance to this year.

As for the scores, it's just a matter of what has been hype. MVP has really raised the bar in terms of features this year. ASB and WSB have taken the "evovled" route this year while MVP has really made strides compared with last year's game not some much the competition. So I think right now the fascination is with a darkhorse of sorts. We don't know what we are getting with MVP so it's it decent the game gets higher scores because expectations aren't that high. ASB and WSB get lower scores because I would guess many reviewers didn't find enough new innovations from last year's version. But then I haven't played and maybe MVP or WSB are just plain better. Or maybe ASB gets the crown this year.

We'll know when these forums get littered with "Game Killer Bug" and "Oh no "money play". It's a waiting game know.
