Re: The First Round-Up is Out

Even people that don't like ASB, but are baseball fans, would never rate it a 7.2. Maybe BK can be the judge of that. BK, what rating would you give ASB 2004, even though you did not like it?

Basically what I mean is, ASB is a very solid and deep baseball game. Even if you are only into manager mode. I don't understand how any fan of baseball could not appreciate ASB for what it does bring to video games. Just my opinion of course

My main things about all these scores is, how are all these people missing all these bugs in MVP?

Anyway, ASB is my most anticipated game of 2004 for sure.

I think even for ASB 2004, which I didn't care for, check that, I just couldnt find a batting interface that would yield me the results I was looking for, 7.2 sounds low to me.

The depth and the visuals and presentation alone, get it to at least that level. Throw in the fact that some people generally like the gameplay, and I think 7.2 is low. And thats for ASB2004. So that alone makes this score a little suspect to me, and I am not even an ASB fan.

EDIT: I meant to say, that the visuals, depth of franchise and presentation should get it a higher score than 7.2 alone.

I know, it's like the emperor's new cloths or something. I went over to the MVP forum to see what's poppin' and maybe like 5% of people gave honest replys about the game having bugs while others felt as if it was the holy grail of baseball. As for the reviews posted in this topic, I wouldn't pay it much mind. The same thing happened last year about ASB gettin' any positive reviews and being nitpicked apart, yet MVP is always perfect to reviewers. Go figure.

if you look at some of the reviews from last year (ASB04) and look at complete totals. ASB04 (according to reviews) is the worst version of ASB to date.

                        IGN:

                        2002 - 8.4
                        2003 - 8.9
                        2004 - 8.1

                        Playstation Mag:

                        2002 - 3.5 out of 5
                        2003 - 3.5 out of 5
                        2004 - 3 out of 5

                        Game Informer

                        2002 - 8 out of 10
                        2003 - 9 out of 10
                        2004 - 8 out of 10

OXM: (they've never been big fans)

                        2002 - no xbox
                        2003 - 6.2
                        2004 - 7.7

trend wise it would appear we keep getting worse which i think is off. I've tried to go back and play 2002 and 2003 and we've improved leaps and bounds beyond those games. It's tough to pour years into the prouct and come up short of everyone else in reviews, but thats the way the ego crumbles. I cant tell you not to put faith in reviews because a lot of reviews are generally pretty good. But i play a lot of other games besides ASB, and i try not to go based on commercials or reviews. Word of mouth from people who actually plunk down 40 to 50 bucks for the game goes much further.

Anyway...im looking forward to ASB coming out so i can see the reactions here on OS, its our only real guage on the pulse. I dont think fielder cam is a swing and a miss personally. I really cant play the game any other way now. Game should be out soon.

Well who knows the person that did the review MAY have taken a bribe for something from ea... remember and ive been thinking abut this all day today...... what if acclaim and sega had all the money..or better yet... i still think that all three companies should pool their skills staffs and all that and come out with only one game. Combining the best features and stuff from each... THAT WAY NO ONE could complain that one companys game is better than the other one...
