Here is the thought that occured to me - we get some people that are interested and have them do some research on historical MLB teams and essentially post their ratings of those players so we can then create them and save them on our hard drives/ memory cards. For example, somebody could take the '27 Yankees, somebody else the '54 Indians, somebody else the '86 Mets, etc... look at the player's stats in relation to league averages and develop ratings for those players that could be created in ASB. I think using a site like www.baseball-reference.com a person could get individual stats for players and see how those numbers relate to the avegrages/ totals for that year and come up with some fairly accurate ratings. We could then post the ratings and people could use that data to create the teams.
It would take some time, but I think it would be interesting to be able to "collect" great teams and save them if for nothing else than fantasy "what-if" kind of games. How cool would it be to play with Murderer's Row in Old Yankee Stadium, or see Jackie Robinson at Ebbets Field, or see a Tinkers to Evers to Chance DP at old Wrigley Field, etc...
Now this may or may not work depeding on the create a team structure - if it would work and people are willing to pick up an historical team or two we could get a nice list done by the time the game is out.
Does anyone have handy the list of rating categories used for pitchers and hitters in ASB? If it looks like this is possible I may start rating a couple of teams to see how it works out. I think setting up and Excel spreadsheet would make it pretty simple to store and distribute information.
If anyone is interested in doing some historical player rating, let me know and we can figure out who is doing what teams.
