    Power Pro 2013 impressions

Hey guys, PP 2013 has been released and it's available in region free PS3, Vita and PSP versions at a bargain price of $39.99 this year! Here's the Play-Asia link, they are currently offering free shipping...

<a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-15-%22Jikkyou+Powerful+Pro+Yakyuu+2013%22-18-2.html?affiliate_id=876907" title="Buy PC Games & Video Games for PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and all other consoles, including classics.">Buy Power Pro 2013</a>

I've been playing the (Japanese PSN) downloaded Vita version so I'll post some early impressions. In case you're not familiar, the 2012 Vita version was incredible! It was literally the PS3 version sized down to a small screen, butter smooth with no BS. Nobody who bought it disagreed with me so if you like baseball and have a Vita it's a must-buy! The only complaint was that power hitting was tough using the smaller sticks. I think they've done some things this year that should help in that area, plus they added a new 'Manager Mode' if you want to abandon batting yourself.

    - The transition from last year to this year looks smooth, just a few new options so the user settings pages will only need slight tweaking. Also the main page looks pretty much the same (unlike PYS which changes things around every year which gives me headaches.)

    - New this year is 'Manager Mode' and it's a blast! It's similar to PYS but it plays lightning fast and has really nice camera angles. When the CPU hit a home run the camera work was just stellar! Each play is decided with 1 pitch, but with a simple click of the "R" button you can see every pitch if you want (it annoyed me in PYS that you had to go into the menu to do this.) As soon as Muka gets the game he agreed to translate this mode so we'll be on it soon.

    - I'm seeing some new animations here & there and it seems player faces stand out a little better. Also the great zoom-in style replays from PYS 2013 are here. They look better with PYS's real life player models but overall these additions bring a bit more life to the game.

    - Could be a fluke, but my defense has been committing more errors than I recall from last year. Holding my breath when the ball is hit to certain players.

    - There's some new graphical things going on in certain situations. Good power hitter comes up to the plate and the inside of his power hitting cursor is glowing orange and there's what appears to be yellow rain falling around the batting area. Another player was glowing with a blue flaming aura and another one had a red aura. Obviously these are power boosts of some sort - or a display of hot/cold players...looking forward to Muka's translations of these. I'm all for it because Power Pro is a mix of fun & realism so bring it on.

    - New options: there are now 3 options in how to display the human & CPU pitch cursor. It would take too long to explain but you just have to experiment to your liking on this. In addition to "Pitch Speed" there is now a "Hit Speed" option, haven't explored this yet so will update when I figure out what it does.

    - And yes! You can hit batters - PYS are you listening?

    - Haven't checked yet to see if there are new Special Skills.

    - So far I'm happy with the upgrade, I think the new addition of Manager Mode and the power boost stuff makes it worthy of supporting the game. The Vita version clocks in at 1/2 Gig bigger than last years version so it's not just a roster update. Speaking of support, you can also support our websites by purchasing the game through our home page (or through the link above). Based on the small commission from each sale, both Muka & I were able to get the game free this year - and we really do appreciate that.

      Re: Power Pro 2013 impressions

I posted up a "Manager Mode" video of Vita gameplay. It's pretty amateur as I literally used a pumpkin to keep the Vita upright while recording in my hand (lame I know.)

Anyway, before each at-bat each team must choose from a "rock, paper, scissors" type of command. If you want to follow along below are the commands that were chosen during the clip for each at-bat. Text in blue means the command "won the battle" although there's no guarantee of success.

      1. Pitch Low (induce contact) vs Contact Hit
      2. Pitch Inside vs Patient Approach
      3. Pitch Outside vs Hit for Power
      4. Pitch Outside vs Contact Hit
      5. Pitch Inside vs Bunt
      6. Pitch High (strike outs increase) vs Pull Hit
      7. Pitch Outside vs Patient Approach
      8. None vs Super Bar! (This serves up a big boost and the opponents command doesn’t matter. You only get a few of these per game.)

Also note the flaming red or blue auras around some of the players. These denote that a special skills is activated. Example: at 0:44 seconds in the video the batter is good in run scoring opportunities (chance) and the pitcher is slightly weakened when runners are on base.

      Here's the link:

As you can see, the Buffalo's short stop isn't one of the best and is rated "F" in being error prone & making big plays.

No news yet but these games are big sellers so my question is when PYS & PP will be released - soon after PS4 launch or normal release dates?

              Re: Power Pro 2013 impressions

Super simple to start a game & play (controls are similar to other baseball games.) In order to get full enjoyment of the game I'd recommend learning the special skills text and editing player names to English. This will take some time but you'll still have a blast while learning.

It's optional though, I mean if you watch players you're unfamiliar with soon enough you'll figure out what they're good at. Where it's really important is the later stages of a game and you need to sub in a guy with a specific skill you need (good bunter, low-ball pitcher when you need a double play etc.)

Recieved my copy (Vita), a few days ago and have been playing non stop. Love the game. Thanks for getting the 2013 menu changes up on the site Spirits!

Looks pretty cool - reminds me of when I used to play Baseball Stars for hours on end, except a more modern and awesome version.

Makes me wish I knew Japanese!

KB you really don't need to know Japanese thanks to Spirit's site. A couple hours on there and you will be breezing thru the menus. What I like about Power Pros is you can change the names of your players to English which helps me remember who's who on my roster lol. I held off buying this and PYS for a couple of years because i was intimidated with it being Japanese but finally figured what the heck and got PYS 2010 a couple years ago and with Spirit's translation site, worked my way thru it, and haven't looked back. Power Pro is one of those games that is a perfect match for the Vita, from the endearing graphics which really grow on you to the pick up and play gameplay, which btw is outstanding. If you are a fan of the older games like Baseball Stars you owe it to yourself to pick up this game.

Cool man, glad you like the game as much as I do. And yea, especially if you have a Vita and are a baseball fan you're missing out man - just buy the games, you won't regret it.

Our sites may look a little daunting, but the pages are designed so a 4th grader can understand them. And most of it is there just for reference. As a beginner all you need to do is learn to adjust settings, start a game and the controls. After that you can just pop back in when you're ready to learn more.

Unfortunately no, only Power Pro. With Power Pro 2013 just being released, and if you're a beginner now would be a great time to get into Japan baseball. Buy the game, edit player names to English and by the time PYS rolls around in 2014 you'll have all the players down good.

                          Re: Power Pro 2013 impressions

Last night I was playing Manager Mode, Baystars (me) at Lions (CPU). Tight 1-0 game going into the 9th inning but I get a man on with my slugger Blanco coming up to the plate. Fortunately I saved up my "power bar" to max and cashed in on it.

Blanco hits a HR to dead center, the camera pans behind him and you can see the pitcher with a shocked look on his face (he looked like Wile E. Coyote when he runs off a cliff.) The camera follows the ball all the way into the stands and lands in front of an asian guy with a fat face. He's looking down shaking his head in disgust.

Hilarious stuff, and what great detail for a handheld game.

I haven't checked out Manager Mode yet, but I had a question about it. Do any of the settings affect this mode or is it purely attribute based? I would think stuff like the hitting lock-on stuff would not have any affect since you are not in control of the batter, but what about the CPU settings like defense difficulty, baserunning etc. Curious to know if you have any thoughts on this.

Thanks again to you and Muka for all the great work.
