One more thing, you want to mark batting stances that are off, let's look at MVP, one that's noticeable is Brian Giles's stance in the game, if you've seen him on TV, he's crouched with his knees bent and an open stance, in MVP, it's a normal stance with him kinda of bent (Not the BENT stance) with his knees straight. But unlike EGM, I'm not letting it affect me so why should stances affect them playing it?

      There are at least a half-dozen players on every team that I've played against in MVP that are just as off as Giles. None of the Cubs were right except Sosa and Alou... most were not even close. They had Derek Lee in an extreme Pete Rose crouch, for instance. Ditto for Corey Patterson, Grud, and A. Ramirez. And they have stances in the edit database that are similar to the real thing, so it's just a case of the developers not knowing what the players' actual stances look like.

      I mentioned that not too long ago on the MVP board and everyone scoffed because it's so meaningless. But both EGM and OXM have cited the accurate stances as one of the reasons MVP is "a revolutionary baseball game."

      In any case, it defitely looks like something other than the facts are leading those two mags to rag on ASB's players and stances while praising MVP's.

            The score is not the point. The point is that they failed to summarise the WHOLE game and decided instead to focus on a few parts of the game, which appeared to figure into their overall impression. If the writer was up against a deadline, they need better time management skills, in order to allow themselves enough time to play, analize and review the game. I don't hve a problem with the score, I have a problem with their professionalism. Either take your job seriously as a journalist/writer or get out of the buisness.

                  I might also add, the article makes a negative comment about the stadiums. I find asb's presentation of the stadiums to be the most accurate of any baseball vid out.

                        Re: ASB 05 review scores from EGM

                        When I read this review, I had to shake my head. To be fair, if I step back and look at the situation without emotion, ASB has arguably had the least amount of innovation this year, and while the graphics are photo-realistic, they are a little drab in comparison. For the "I-have-a-million-and-one-more-games-to-review-this-week" print reviewer, those things jump right out at you, and based on their dislike for '04, I can at least see HOW these guys review ASB so low...

                        That all being said, these reviewers are the most hypocritical, pathetic know-nothings on the planet. Funny how ASB has enough franchise depth "for eggheads" but Madden's "Owner Mode" was the MF'n SH!T!!! This is from the SAME REVIEWER. Franchise depth makes Madden #1, but an even DEEPER franchise/expansion mode should appeal to "eggheads"? Make up your freaking minds. Madden is the same each year, but they brush that off. ASB is similar and OMG its a gamekiller. Weak stances? HAS THIS STUPID POS EVEN PLAYED THE GAME? The faces are photo-realistic! Jeez...When I played MVP for the first time, I saw a million little things wrong and I couldn't WAIT to get back to OS to rip into it. I was gonna trash the fielding, the player models, the lack of walks, the horrible crowd, the hit-or-miss DP animations..everything. It was gonna be the RANT. OF. THE. YEAR!...

                        ...then I played the 2nd inning. I hated MVP because I WANTED to hate it, and obviously the EGM crew feels the same about ASB, to print such misleading crap. The difference is that I gave MVP a full week and found alot of things that I DO like.

                        <Calms down>

                        I'll be kind and simply say that our friends at EGM must be severely over-worked to print a review without playing the game first.

But what is frustrating for fans of the series, is that the guy clearly did not take the time to appreciate the details that are one of the strong suits of this game. If he didn't like any of the pitcher/batter alternatives, then fine. If he just couldn't get into, then ok. But don't say the stadiums are unlively when the have way more going on than any other title.

                              If I had never seen any of the games, and I had 15 minutes to play each of them, ASB would probably be my last choice. It seems that this is the situation for these mag reviewers. Professionals should probably spend more than 15 minutes on these games.
