There may be some truth to this. But what is frustrating for fans of the series, is that the guy clearly did not take the time to appreciate the details that are one of the strong suits of this game. If he didn't like any of the pitcher/batter alternatives, then fine. If he just couldn't get into, then ok. But don't say the stadiums are unlively when the have way more going on than any other title.

If I had never seen any of the games, and I had 15 minutes to play each of them, ASB would probably be my last choice. It seems that this is the situation for these mag reviewers. Professionals should probably spend more than 15 minutes on these games.

I'm sure they spent more than 15 minutes with the game. But:

      1. They're pretty much ignorant about major league authenticity except on the most obvious, surface-level details - like the look of the best players in the league. And they obviously don't really care about long-term depth or authentic stances/animations for some of the less well-known players.

      2. They prefer arcade-style elements.

      3. They prefer cartoon-style graphics.

      4. They had some preconceptions about the series (and about other games) that influenced their opinions.

      5. They weren't very open-minded.

All of this stuff is pretty much par for the course with EGM reviews. When you get the mag month after month, you come to accept those things and take what you can of value as far as information, then dismiss the rest.

Remember, a review is just one person's opinion. Don't let what someone else says, dictate, whether or not you play the game or not. Also, there is alot of "fanboyism" in magazines. Some will absolutely love one game and hate another. And in a different magazine, it will be vice versa. I really don't give a ______ what people say about a game, I am the only one who can decide for me. This was around the same score that ASB'04 got last year, and to me it was the best baseball game out there. Remember last year, with all the bugs that MVP had, it still was rated higher than ASB. For some odd reason, seems that there are alot of ASB haters out there.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Almost everyone in this thread is coming off as a fanboi because they are insulting a review that obviously they did not agree with. Perhaps the reviewer is right and the game does suck this year. Or perhaps he is a crack-smoking putz who thinks a "squeeze" is how snug his woman is. Either way, you can't insult someone's review because it doesn't adhere to the way you want the game to be or to what you want to hear. If this review really means a lot to you, then rent the game and make your own determination. But if the review is worthless drivel, then ignore it and go out and purchase ASB and again, make your own determination. Either way, this is just his honest opinion of the game, whether he played it for 2 minutes or 3 days. There is always the slim possibility that the reviews are accurate, no?

No, but we can insult the review because it does not cover all the facts. It just goes on to put down certain aspects of the game (fielder cam and slow pitches), both which can be easily changed in the options menu.

There is a difference between and informative review, and someone just spouting off how they hated the game. These people are paid, or should be anyway, to review a game that gives the reader some insight on what to expect for the game. Including the available options. It just comes down to some "reviewer" not wanting to spend any time playing/learning the game.
