Re: ASB 05 review scores from EGM

No, but we can insult the review because it does not cover all the facts. It just goes on to put down certain aspects of the game (fielder cam and slow pitches), both which can be easily changed in the options menu.

There is a difference between and informative review, and someone just spouting off how they hated the game. These people are paid, or should be anyway, to review a game that gives the reader some insight on what to expect for the game. Including the available options. It just comes down to some "reviewer" not wanting to spend any time playing/learning the game.

Either way, this is just his honest opinion of the game, whether he played it for 2 minutes or 3 days. There is always the slim possibility that the reviews are accurate, no?

<hr /></blockquote><font class="post"> Ok, how would you defend the OXM reviewer of ASB when he says there's no way to fix the velocity of the pitches when it has been noted that the user can chose from 5 varible pitch speends. Most of these reviewers of sports games don't know jack. They should stick with reviewing Halo or Grand Theft Auto. I don't give credence to any of them as none of them are likely to have one or two people on their staff dedicated to sports gaming. Reviews seem to affect a lot of people's purchases as evidenced by MVP's review. A poor review by a magazine that played the game "2 minutes or 2 days" can make a misinformed gamer miss out on a great game.

Acclaim sucks.....they put out one of the best baseball games ever with Allstar 2000...but that was also when they were in their short-lived upswing...Plus look at their other sports series...NBA Jam....good on 16-bit, then sucked. QB Club...great for 2 years, then horrible until the plug is pulled. I'm not going to offend anybody here, but I think you can figure out the rest(puts on flame reistant suit).

This review is irrelevant imo. All Star Baseball woud be way better than those ratings if they put out the same game as last year let alone fixed some of the issues they needed to fix. There are so many nuances to playing a game of All Star Baseball it is the deepest of any game around.

Your opinion is welcome here. You could have said it a bit differently, but hey . Personally, ASB 2004 was one of my favorite baseball games of all time. Behind baseball stars, WSB 95, WSB 98 (Saturn), High Heat 2003 (PS2) and EWBB on the PC.

To be fair, if I step back and look at the situation without emotion, ASB has arguably had the least amount of innovation this year, and while the graphics are photo-realistic, they are a little drab in comparison. For the "I-have-a-million-and-one-more-games-to-review-this-week" print reviewer, those things jump right out at you, and based on their dislike for '04, I can at least see HOW these guys review ASB so low...

That all being said, these reviewers are the most hypocritical, pathetic know-nothings on the planet. Funny how ASB has enough franchise depth "for eggheads" but Madden's "Owner Mode" was the MF'n SH!T!!! This is from the SAME REVIEWER. Franchise depth makes Madden #1, but an even DEEPER franchise/expansion mode should appeal to "eggheads"? Make up your freaking minds. Madden is the same each year, but they brush that off. ASB is similar and OMG its a gamekiller. Weak stances? HAS THIS STUPID POS EVEN PLAYED THE GAME? The faces are photo-realistic! Jeez...When I played MVP for the first time, I saw a million little things wrong and I couldn't WAIT to get back to OS to rip into it. I was gonna trash the fielding, the player models, the lack of walks, the horrible crowd, the hit-or-miss DP animations..everything. It was gonna be the RANT. OF. THE. YEAR!...

...then I played the 2nd inning. I hated MVP because I WANTED to hate it, and obviously the EGM crew feels the same about ASB, to print such misleading crap. The difference is that I gave MVP a full week and found alot of things that I DO like.

is it a big deal? of course not. but os is by far the best sports gaming website around, and i think what they find important helps shape the way future games are developed to some extent. it's at least a little important to consider how they're gonna be defined.
