    Re: High Heat 2004 PC

http://www.baseball-reference.com/ is a good statistical site but it lacks some important info like for example Ground Ball % for both pitchers and players, pitchers arm strength, players's speed and arm strength etc.....

http://www.fangraphs.com/ has all of that and more and the only thing it lacks are the number of doubles and triples pitchers allowed.
I use baseball-reference only to extract that number with pitchers.

When You are creating a new pitcher or want to edit his repertoire here is a place to go http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pc_splash.php

As for as player's photos are concerned.........espn has good quality but is very very slow with updating players, MLB photos suck big time even thou they are updated quickly, best photos are those that teams make at their camps at the end of february usualy at Tampe Arizona or some similar place. They come from usa today............anyway here is a link from last year for example http://www.usatodaysportsimages.com/setImages/163001

          Re: High Heat 2004 PC

          Thanks Greenhell...
I'm getting most of the relative data from baseball-reference, and mlb.com team sites, newly player data from fangraphs.
I don't remember how to append the players photos files with hhedit...

Also where did you grab the arm factor and range data from???

I'm adding some intuitive "to me" changes to some of the data. Pitchers had far too many complete games, so I am just using pitchers ip/gs for their endurance number. Also I'm using career numbers in the Pit and Bat sections in hhedit. Pitch quality numbers?? Where does that come from?

My ultimate goal with this set is to make it comprehensive and usable going forward for subsequent seasons, so just updating will be needed...

Now... manager profiles.... hhedit's setup, is so esoteric, that if you don't hit a number it likes, it just defaults to zero, and it's not possible to do inside the game itself is it?

Again, thanks for the tips... and hope you can point me to the rest..

            Re: High Heat 2004 PC

Ok so with pitchers at the fangraphics page there is a section called Pitch Type........under which are listed different type of pitches and their velocities.
Type of pitches there are not quite correct but velocities are.........so you can extract pitcher's arm strength from there.
With batters almost at the bottom of fangraphics page there is section called
Fans Scouting Report form which you can see batters speed range arm etc...
You can also use http://www.tangotiger.net/scout/ page but that are the same ratings as the ones from fangraphics.
For photos you need to unpack file Portrait.mf with HH04editor in a separate folder then edit with photoshop or similar program the corresponding Photo Number(number is shown at HH04 editor Gen tab), then overwrite the old one and repack with HH04edit into your original Portrait.mf
Same process for player's faces inside the game only you edit heads.mf file.
Don't understand what pitch quality numbers is??
Managers profiles work just fine............being testing them for years........you are doing something wrong..........they have a range........usually from -0.9 to 0.3/0.5/0.6........so basicly if you want to modify Steal Attempts for a team.........-0.9 means no steals at all and 0.5 would mean steal almost every pitch. So the realistic tune will be somewhere in the middle of that.....let's say -0.328000000........if a team steals a lot then it goes up.........example KC had most steal attempts last year so they would have like around 0 and the less steals team was Baltimore so they would had to have like -0.5. Another thing is that after you change manager profiles settings for a team you need to hit the APPLY button and save the season. Otherwise your changes won't be saved into that season.

The pitch quality numbers I'm speaking of are in the performance data section underneath "pitching style" and groundball percentage" categories.

Oou these are a little bit mysterious to me too. With them you basicly define which is the best pitch, second best, third best and the worst pitch of a pitcher with 4 types of pitches for example. At least that is my understanding of it. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pc_splash.php has pretty good info of what are the pitchers primary, secondary and less used pitches.

                    Progress report....
Heavy lifting has been done.. %98 of all player that played in 2014 edited..
I have skipped doing batting stats for AL pitchers. Don't think it's very necessary.
Now updating arm strength, run speed, infield and outfield range for all.

I need an original schedule for 2014 to create the csv file. Using the schedule with results gets confusing because of rainouts.
                    Soon, very soon....

                        Re: High Heat 2004 PC

                        Hey Greenie..

I've been doing some research... I've looked at the configuration of the stock season included with the game cd, one of Pudge's rosters, and yours...
In hhedit, the stock file had all of the batters based on a 600 at bat season for the performance data. In Pudges, he based his on a 3 year season average, so if a batter had 1800 ab's over 3 years, his performance data ab's are 600.
Your performance data includes 3 year totals....
                        No big deal right???
                        Uh uh...
In running full season sims, your 3 year totals have league batting averages waaaay too low, only 1 team above .250.
In simming Pudges, the results are much closer to actual.

I was editing your roster set franchiseC, and using career data for performance data info... now after this revelation, I'm going to change the performance data to reflect a 600 ab average for batters, and a per season average for pitchers. The year by year historical stats don't seem to matter in game play.
So, going forward, I'm going to edit the performance data to reflect the above findings for what I'm working on as a 2014 season replay roster, and then just work with your 2015 set using what I've observed.
I've decided to use the fielder arm, and all players speed ratings based on the OOTP ratings. They use a 20 point scale, so I just halve everything for HH2004...
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.. if you read my drunken rambling post in which my space bar didn't work, you'll see that I'm stats are my mania, and baseball is the worst...

                          Re: High Heat 2004 PC

                          Hi there,
well long time ago when I started making this roster sets I used to make them based on the last season data only. But then slowly realized that the more data you import........the more realistic is. Take for example Prince Fielder last year's states........0.247 BA with 3 HR Three years ago he hit .313 with 30 HR and two years ago .279 with 25HR.........so if you import states for all 3 years you will get average of 0.275 BA and 20 HR per season while if you import last year stats you will get 0.247 BA and 3 HR. Guy was injured and he's states were a fluke. Happens more to pitchers then hitters actually.
It doesn't matter at all if you import 600AB or 1800 or 3600 HHedit can handle them all and recalculate player's states.
BTW look at the BA chart for MLB for last 20-30 years. When HH04 came out it was around 0.27, when Pudge was around it was 0.265 and now is 0.251. BA is simply falling down every year.
Well I never tried to make SIM states realistic. I always tried to make Ingame experience realistic, for example I measured player's speeds to first in real life and then adjusted batters speeds according to that etc etc etc
Sim states could be changed by sim sliders. But as you play with them trying to get them as close to real as possible, You'll find that there will always be some ridiculus stats. Basicly as you try to fix one stat You will screw another etc.

Cool. Last year I didn't had time for a new schedule.Neither this year.
It's kinda long work for 3-4 days at least. The annoying thing is that as you are making it you will probably do some mistakes within the schedule and at the end you'll have to Sim reg season till end and check teams number of games. If there are mistakes some teams will have total of 156 and other 154 games played for example. Another thing I remember is that as you make the schedule don't bother to make day and night games. Cause later when you implement that schedule in a roster set, day and night games will be lost, so will have to make them again.
Well i updated pitchers states about a week before reg season ended.
But hitters states last update was loong before that........like in july.........
That needs work too I guess. I really don't have time now. I can barely manage all transactions trades and photo updates.

I know about sim testing the schedules. Do you know if these rosters can be "appended"? Cuz if there are 2 of us working on them, then...
I've got time, and I'm a grinder, guess it comes from bashing out thousands of screenprinted t-shirts, I just kinda settle in for the long haul and just do it. So, I can do some of the historical stat work. Is Lahman's a viable option though?
