    Generated Counts - Season Lenghts

I have seen several posts by users saying they use a 2-0 generated count. I am a PS2'r STILL waiting for my game, but my question is: How do you set the generated count to 2 and o. Have they changed something that lets you predetermine the count? I dont remember this being an option last year.

Also, is there anyone else out there that would like to see an otion for shorter seasons, maybe 40, 80, 120 and 162 game options. It takes a long time to play 162 games. You can only get in a couple of seasons before next years game comes out. Kind of makes the 20yr franchise meaningless.

    You can't do shorter seasons.

As far as Generated Counts are concerned, you CAN set up a 2-0 count by going into the Options and under the "Generated Count" option, just set it to any count you want, or random or "smart". Smart referring to how the game takes into account the skill of your pitcher. However, I've heard Random and Smart are kinda botched.

There are a lot of count modes to pick from and you can also pick the exact count you want.

As for the long season - well, I guess you just have to sim out some games to get to the end faster. I usually play the first game of a series and sim the others. Or you can choose to play your bad pitchers and try and get a win for them and let the CPU sim your good pitchers or vice versa. I also like to play entire series between my big rivals or league leaders. Just mix it up and sim some games and you'll be in the post season before you know it.

There are no options for shorter seasons, and this is one of my biggest gripes. I prefer not to sim, and 162 games is alot. They said that it messes up the stats, but it worked in ASB03 and WSB2K3.....Obviously stat totals will be less, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make in order to play every game is a reasonable amount of time.

They did handle generated counts well. You can set them for Random, random favoring hitters, random favoring pitchers, any specific count you want 2-1, 0-2, 3-2 etc or a smart count (which they don't explain, but I believe it takes pitcher accuracy and fatiuge into account). Personally, I use random.

                Pluses(on Random):
                Games move along much quicker.
You are more likely to have walks.

                Negatives:
Pitch counts get up quickly since there are few one or two pitch at bats.
The luck of the draw really impacts the game. It is tough to overcome those outings when it seems that many of your a bats start out 0-2, and you seem to face 3-0 count after 3-0 while on the mound. I don't mind this, as it seems to average out over the long haul, but can be frustrating at times.

I would recommend giving random counts a shot. It does take a few games to get used to it, because you have to be in the habbit of recognizing the count when your batter steps in. It sucks to forget you have a generated count, let the first pitch go by and "Strike 3 you're out".

Re: Generated Counts - Season Lenghts

I used smart counts last night. I noticed that once I started striking out a lot, I would get a lot of 1-2, 2-2, 02 counts. When I started giving up hits, I would get a lot of 3-1, 3-0 counts.

My main gripe is that my pitcher had 172 pitches thrown by the sixth inning. So the generated counts are screwed up somewhat. I wish they worked better. One thing I was think about doing was playing with a 1-1 count to speed the game up and not add a lot of pitches. Once the relievers come in I could leave or go to regular count.

If anybody does something that works for them, I am all ears.

I use random counts and smart counts and your pitch count does get up there. However, don't read too much into it. I had a player with 140 pitches still making some pitches. A decent starter should be able to pitch into the 7th or 8th as long as he hasn't given up to many hits or walks. You have to watch his velocity and control, not get hung up on the pitch counts.

I will always prefer to play this way, because the only stat you sacrifice for a realstic game is pitch counts (which really don't matter). I can get a 4-3 win from a pitcher who pitches 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. Good stuff and so I don't care that he threw 135 pitches.
