Ghost in the Machine: MVP Baseball 2012 Alive and Kicking

Yesterday, Take Two finally confirmed what we all knew was inevitable: the MLB 2K series is now dead and there will be no baseball games on Microsoft's consoles this spring.

Coincidentally, a month ago Glenn Wigmore, senior staff writer extraordinaire, brought up the 'Ghost Game' of MVP Baseball available only in Korea, MVP Baseball 2012. We watched the videos and couldn't help but feel a bit reminiscent and hopeful about EA's baseball product's viability. Could EA relaunch the MVP series? Does MVP 2012 provide some clues as to what such a product could look like?

    Here are some thoughts.

I still think they are laying in the weeds waiting to strike. My guess is they want no sharing and want the whole thing like Madden.

What's funny is that when MVP Baseball died, so did my love for the actual sport.

It's kind of like how playing FIFA gets some people to enjoy watching real soccer. To me, it's cool to play as these players, notice all of their tendencies, and then want to learn more about them and follow them in real life.

MVP Baseball was so much fun to play because it was that perfect balance between a true-to-life simulation and a pick-up-and-play arcade-style game. While The Show definitely comes as close to replicating the actual game as anything we've ever seen, MVP Baseball was just MORE FUN.

EA should bring back MVP Baseball and allow 2k to make football games again

That'd be a terrible idea on the MLB's part, if EA grabs any exclusivity it will be 3rd Party, exclusivity just like what 2K had. If SCEA were making a crappy product then they might jump at a great offer from EA to be the only one but SCEA's game is top notch and a great representation of their brand.

i think konami makes the most sense because they've already been making mlb games with power pros and i think some sort of facebook game. Anyone that has played pro yakuu spirits knows how great those games are and as much as i love the show, pro yakuu spirits is just better and i would love to see an mlb equivalent to pys

That gameplay looks a whole lot like MVP05. That was a good game, but compared to the Show now, it is a ways behind.

I never had as much fun playing a baseball game as I did MVP baseball 2005. I enjoy MLB but I've had such a hard time striking a balance between realism and fun in that game, and eventually I just gave up trying.

So maybe now with 2K folding there is a chance for this title to come back to life. Would be great for EA to produce this again. I would also like to see Microsoft do something about their ownership of 3DO's High Heat baseball. The time is now! As an avid 'The Show' lover, I still think competition and variety is a good thing.

MVP 05 was my favorite game of all time. I have tried going back to it so many times, but it just was never the same. Now I am realizing the game was 10 years old and it makes me realize what a lifetime ago that was.
