    After Playing ASB Again...

I really enjoyed it last night. I was playing MVP exclusively for the past week and a half. I really like both games. But after playing MVP, I popped ASB in yesterday nite and played at Great American Ball Park. WOW. They really got the stadium on the mark. And the BTP cam looked so real I felt like I was watching a game. I really enjoyed the true to life pace of the game. Funny, I didn't find I was walking as many batters as I should have. I think most people walking a lot are using generated counts. I prefer the entire pitch sequence. A few things that bothered me were:

    1. Too many nubbers in front of the pitcher that end up being base hits.
    2. I couldn't get to some balls with my fielder that were laying still on the grass.
    3. I didn't find too many walks.

My only other major gripe is that rosters cannot be updated for exhibition play manually and I don't have Live. This is a huge mistake, considering the community for other games that make updated rosters for AR. It increases the playability of a game. Baseball fans hate stale rosters and Acclaim forces you to get Live. A huge problem if you don't have broadband. How much does it cost for Live per month anyhow? I don't care for Franchise, which this game seems to be designed for. I only play on the field in Exhbition mode because I don't like to be only one team for an entire season.

Finally, one last question: I noticed that the pitcher's pitches have a colored box that changes throughout the game. I'm assuming this indicates how effective each pitch is. Can someone tell me if this is right and what the different colors mean? Also, do they change from game to game for a pitcher?

This game looks really good with the BTP cam and the stadiums. Unfortunately, like HH's demise, I worry that games that don't appeal to the masses will eventually die. That means we may lose the realistic sim approach that I love so much. Still can't decide which I like better, ASB or MVP, but after much MVP and the meters (which I do like a lot) ASB was refreshing because it felt so real.

I'd like to know: Presentation aside, do you find the games you are playing on ASB to be realistic (or more realistic than MVP)? (Variety of hits, stats, seeing new surprises, etc.)

I find the variety of hits, or non-hits, much better than last year. Using 2-D cursor, I struck out a LOT in ASB04. Against hard throwers and also pitchers that changed speeds a lot, I could easily strike out 10-15 times a game. In fact, in my franchise, 5 of my guys lead the league in strikeouts. In this year's version, I sometimes strike out as few as 2 or 3 times, and my most was around 10. That leaves a lot more room for contact with the ball and many different types of hits. I've hit flyballs, grounders, choppers, pop outs, foul outs, broken bats, etc. The 2 new things this year that I've noticed a lot more are check swing groundouts and little tappers. It is frustrating but awesome when you think that you are right on the ball and you get slider that breaks late and you barely get wood on the ball and it turns into a swinging bunt.

As far as I can tell, walks are hard to come by in Exhibition mode because every pitcher starts out with a full health meter. Just from my experience in a few games, walks are a lot more common in franchise mode because you have more realistic pitcher fatigue.

          Hi,

I've noticed that going from rookie, to pro, to now All-Star I dont' see near as many nubbers in front of the plate becoming base hits. They usually get to them pretty quickly. Maybe its just me.... hmmmm

that amounts to $60 a year, if you want you can pay in one lump sum of $50 and be done paying till next year, but as said its money well spent
