real disappointed

just picked up the game for ps2 today...ouch...last years version is better. After three spring training games:
the base running AI is Triple Play bad...***nners not tagging up..not scoring from second on singles..getting picked off at 3b...trying to steal down by 2 in the 9th with no out and Helton at the plate..

I play manage mode on offense and pitch on all-star with all aids turned off and auto field.

After the 1st game and numerous singles off the wall, I made the adjustments to OF range and arms and players speed..the next two games I had too many extra base hits(even though some guys were still stopping at 1st even though the ball got by the OFs and still problems with tagging up and scoring from 2nd on singles.

And through 3 games only one walk and it was a very questionable intentional where with 0 out and a man on 2nd they intentional my 8th place hitter so I can just bunt 2 guys into scoring position for the top of the order with my pitcher.

also whats the deal with all those half a** flailing swings happening several tmes an inning..

I will give it some more time..try some more tweaking...but right now last year's game seems more playable

I just got it also, I have to say it's uninspiring at best. The gameplay is very vanilla and the fielder cam is useless. Zone hitting is a plus and to be honset, the only reason I'm even giong to try to like the game. I may have to agree with you, last years game may have been better. ANyway, goign back for more and hoping I find something that keeps me interested in the game.....

Here's the verdict...I see no difference between a pitch throw by Mark Prior and a pitch throw by some garbage middle reliever no one has ever heard of, all pitch's look the same. John Olerud chases fly balls with the same foot speed as Ichiro, or at least I see no difference in foot speed. As I stated earlier fielder cam is a waste of time/useless. Many balls hit to and off of the the wall are singles. I read the manual and it said to hit L1 + the base your runner is on to advance him and after 5 games I never could get it to work and still havn't figured out how to advance my runners.

MLB was a better game than this. I really was expecting more i.e. better than MLB which I deamed "unplayable" because of the lack of check swings and querky fielding controls and fielding camera angles.

I wish I would have rented it first...hopefuly EB will give me at least $20 back when I take it back tomorrow.
