I can't hit for the life of me!

I'm using the SIM pitch speeds (because that produces the most accurate radar gun speeds) with the 2D Cursor. For some reason, I can't hit anything (especially a 4-seam fastball). I think it has to do with how slow the cursor moves. For instance, if the pitcher were to throw a high 4-seam fastball, I wouldn't be able to catch up to it because by the time I've moved the cursor up in the strikezone, the pitch has already gone by.

Maybe I'm just too used to WSB2k3's hitting model where you were still able to move the cursor even after you press the Swing button.

The only remedy I can think of is to predict where the pitcher will throw and place my cursor in that appropriate area so that I even have a remote chance of hitting the ball.

Any tips or recommendations are more than welcome!

Re: I can\'t hit for the life of me!

First off, I'm not sure that the radar gun reads differently depending on the pitch speed setting. The only thing that is effected is how the batter perceives the speed. The game may slow the delivery for our benefit but the gun does not read a slower speed.

My eyes are not as good as some of the younger guys out here so I switched to slowest speed and after thinking it was too slow at first, it's perfect now because I can move my cursor better. The off speed pitches are still very effective because they are relative to the origunal speed of the fastball. In other words, it a scaling issue. The scale is still perfect and you feel the proper effect of each pitch. I've faced Pedro and he threw 92-96 consistently. I use Smoltz and he does the same.

As for hitting, unfortunately we have to use the cursor for the most realistic results. (I'm a no cursor guy). It took me 5 or 6 games to get used to it but I feel I finally have it down and the results I'm getting are dead on accurate. You are correct that you have to start at a spot to guess location. But when you think about it, thats what are favorite MLB players do every night. You have to say to yourself that you won't swing anywhere else and be patient. I like to place my cursor mid strike zone on the outside corner of the box (to a RH batter). From there its easy for me to pull it inside if I have to. Its too hard for me to push it outside.

I also use 'batter aide'. I have never used one before in a baseball game because I thought it was cheating, but this one works differently than other games. It is not a pure pitch preview like ESPN that comes up early and stays there. It comes on late in the pitch and does not really give a great advantage. But it helps.

    Hope this helps.

I use the middle speed (Classic). Sim is just too darn fast, and it becomes a big guessing game. On classic, I have a chance to move the cursor, but it is still a challenge, and anticipation does play into the equation.
