For those who have flip flopped opinions on this game...

Are you having fun playing the game? I own MVP, but it has some issues I just can't seem to get past, and have tried MLB, which was OK but wasn't much fun to me.

I've read the impressions threads and such and while it seems ASB is agreed to be good statistically speaking I couldn't quite gather (through the pages of flaming and talk of games other than ASB) whether people were having fun actually playing the game.

Also is the zone hitting really unplayable this year? (as in terms of being too easy). I'm not a big fan of cursor hitting but would be willing to give it a try again.

    Thanks

I wasn't a fan of cursor-based hitting, either, but the ASB cursor system was a little easier to pick up this year. I'm still in need of some practice, but I was doing a lot better than previous years.

I think overall, ASB has the most of the games currently out there. However, I haven't played ESPN yet, so that may change my mind. My biggest gripe with ASB is that it's extremely difficult to turn a double play unless a hard grounder is hit directly to your SS or 2B.

This game blows away MVP IMO and is graphically equivalent. No crazy catches by the outfielders either, though the zone hitting needs to be fixed if I'm going to buy this game next year.

I have flip-flopped a few times on this game. Currently I really like it, but it has required some patience and work to get there. I found timing and zone hitting to be too easy. I went to the 2D cursor and could not make solid contact to save my life. I then went to the 3D cursor which I liked for about 20 games, but after awhile it just felt like I had too much control over where the ball went. I returned to the 2D, and after some more frustration, I realized that my timing was out of wack (with the help of folks on this board). Finally I have a good challenge with a decent number and variety of hits with appropriate K's and BB's.

Baserunning and fielding can also provide some aggrevating moments while you are learning the ropes.

My favorite parts of the game are the realistic atmosphere with working scoreboards, not to mention cool parks like Ebbetts field, and the field of Dreams. Music that you can import into the game, and generated pitch counts which give an option for a faster paced game while still being realistic.

So yes, I am really having fun with the game, but it has taken some work to get here. 4 Batting modes, 3 pitch speeds, 5 skill levels and multiple camera angles can be a lot to sort through.

Timed and Zone hitting are too easy. You will not strikeout. It's impossible. You can easily make late contact. Half the time it will be for a weak grounder resulting in an infield hit. Last year's game was actually better for timed hitting.

This is a cursor game. I wouldn't worry about struggling with the cursor. Once you master timed/zone hitting, it will come naturally. The late bat contact actually works to your advantage. Remember, you don't have to target the cursor perfectly to make contact. The cursor just measures how well you make contact, not actually hitting the ball.

Another thing, fielder cam is fun.
