    Re: manage only player

All Star Baseball IS the best manage-only baseball game IF you are looking for either a graphical non-text driven game, and one that you can manage on a console gaming system.

          Re: manage only player

I'm having a blast in manage only mode. My Cardinals are only 33-35 ,and about 13 behind the dreaded Cubs, and 9 behind Houston, but my team has been decimated by injuries. Edmonds,Renteria, and Sanders have all spent considerable time on the DL, and Sanders is on the 60 day with a "broken finger". The emotions are real in this game. I've made several trades, and roster moves and its all good. The nitpicking would consist of my team stiking out a few too many times, and my pitchers not striking out many, but overall the best manage only experience I've ever encountered.

I've settled on random counts, and the strikeouts for my pitchers have improved. I prefer it to smart counts, or the 2-0,which I used quite a bit.

Pujols is hitting .350 with 16 homers and 53 rbi's. I drag bunt quite a bit with Womack. Renteria having a big year (8hrs,32 rbis,.334 avg) Rolen striking out a ton (about 70) but hitting over .300 with 12 hr. Great game.

If you want realistic stats, I'd still say High Heat 2003 (For PC). The only prob is dated rosters and robotic animation. Out of the current crop of games, All Star is the only one that is really designed to be used Manage-Only with graphics. However its not the most accurate thing stat wise. But its very pretty and deep and enjoyable in its own way. CleveCluby has had some luck getting MVP Baseball (For PC) to play a decent game of CPU vs CPU games but you do have to jump through some hoops.

All in all the current crop of games are aimed at arcade players. Some developers have added text versions of manage-only style play to this years games. So they know we exist. Hopefully next year one of them will get there graphical engines to play a statistically accurate CPU vs CPU (or dare I dream manage-only) form of baseball, like the High Heat series did.
